Description I) Job PurposeThe Support Specialist is responsible for obtaining/verifying insurance coverage, obtaining service authorization when applicable, and determining an individual's benefits throughout all Divisions and Programs within MHMR of Tarrant County, as directed. Must be able to understand the benefit structure of all types of 3rd party insurances. Must be able to prioritize Guarantors to maximize reimbursement. Able to provide great customer service with internal and external customers. The Support Specialist will apply experience and expertise in the agency's internal and external computer programs, in the design, deployment and oversight of a comprehensive set of data collection, management, retrieval and distribution. Will be knowledgeable of insurance applications.II) Essential FunctionsA) Stay updated on insurance requirements.B) Follow guidance from the Insurance Verification Manager.C) Obtain and verify insurance coverage, authorizations, and service authorizations. Promptly verify insurance information and prioritize guarantors for optimal reimbursement. Use insurance applications efficiently.D) Provide excellent customer service, work as a team player, and determine payment requirements.E) Ensure timely completion of payroll activities.F) Provide insight for office equipment maintenance.G) Track assigned assets and keep the supervisor informed of needed supplies.H) Follow procedures for payment determination, collection verification, and myAvatar data entry.I) Investigate and resolve significant issues under the supervisor's direction.J) Maintain a consistently low billing error rate identified by the Billing Department.K) Complete all required trainings promptly.L) Coordinate and assist with special projects or reports.M) Attend scheduled meetings and trainings.N) Monitor IV Team Staff functions, including emailing scheduled appointment verifications to the supervisor daily and as instructed.O) Performance standards are performed as applicable with MHMR's We CARE values We Connect People in Our Community. P) Performs other job duties or responsibilities as requested or assigned.III) Knowledge of Laws, Regulations, Policies/Procedures, Skills, and AbilitiesA) Understand the benefit structure of 3rd party insurances.B) Demonstrate ongoing proficiency in producing reports and accurate data entry.C) Medicaid Policies and ProceduresD) Working knowledge of resources for individuals with disabilities.E) Advanced language and communication skills (both written and verbal).F) Effective interpersonal skills, exemplary customer service skills, and professional conduct in all interactions with internal and external contacts.G) Demonstrates a high level of integrity and confidentiality.H) Effective organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously while keeping Manager informed of changes, problems, and barriers as they arrive.I) Required computer skills/abilities include daily data entry in approved agency computer systems including documenting every encounter and service rendered in EHR, documenting in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel, and frequent use of e-mail and instant messaging via Microsoft TeamsJ) Ability to comply with agency dress code standards.K) Knowledge of insurance guarantors.IV) Internal & External Customer ServiceA) This position requires extensive internal (team member, agency personnel) and external customer service. The position will accomplish this with above average written and oral skills.V) TravelA) Adhere to MHMR Mileage and Travel reimbursement policy and any other aspect regarding travel.VI) Equipment UsedA) Utilized as required for position. Minimum Requirements VII) Minimum QualificationsA) Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GEDB) Defined Education: NoneC) Preferences: BilingualD) Substitutions: NoneE) Years' Experience: Three (3) yearsF) Defined Experience: Billing or a related accounting fieldG) License/Certifications: Valid Texas Driver's LicenseH) Special Courses: NoneI) Supervisory Experience: NoneVIII) Agency RequirementsA) All staff are required to participate in agency Emergency Preparedness and Environmental Safety programs and may be assigned by their department as a key/essential staff level function during critical events or for the purpose of sustaining business continuity.B) This position may require temporary or permanent re-assignment to any MHMR Tarrant facility as determined by program needs and/or the Division/Director.C) Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.D) The Functional Title of this position may change as the needs of the agency change.E) All work will be completed within the scheduled work hours. All non-exempt (hourly) employees are expected to clock in and clock out for each work shift, no work should be done off the clock.F) MHMR reserves the right to change, add to or eliminate positions as it deems appropriate. G) Employment is at will, as well as agency needs may change.H) Agency dress code is to be followed at all times.I) Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position.
