The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Sexual Violence Response (SVR), the Intake Specialist will manage SVR intake flow. They will triage survivor calls and drop-ins to assess and facilitate urgent survivor needs and the timely scheduling of survivor visits. The Intake Specialist will support the Direct Services team by engaging in constant exchange of information to facilitate a seamless intake process and will serve as the initial point of contact for survivor outreach to identify emergent and long terms needs of student survivors. The incumbent will provide confidential and comprehensive survivor-focused services, resources and trauma-informed care, and assistance to survivors of gender and power-based violence.

This is an essential on-site role. Some hybrid work options may be considered.

Responsibilities

* Intake & Initial Assessment: 55%

* Thoroughly screens and evaluates all requests for assistance; conducts intake assessments, and crisis interviews with callers as needed, utilizing a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach; appropriately escalates critical issues when necessary and accurately document initial assessments and contact/intake notes in a timely manner.

* Triage all inquiries from referring offices and students seeking services or program information.

* Works with survivors to identify their needs and facilitates emergent and follow-up services. Gathers information from clients in a clear, concise, and confidential way and communicate clearly and effectively with clients, ensuring they are fully informed regarding their options.

* Prioritize incoming calls and appointment requests to ensure services are rendered in a timely manner.

* Ensures that clients are informed of any visit requirements (identification, masks, attestation, internet connection, safe telephone number, etc.).

* Collaborates with the Assistant Director to develop and enhance intake protocol and work flow processes; provides suggestions and recommendations to improve workflow, communication and overall intake protocols.

* Coordinates and serves as liaison with appropriate consented medical and/or social service providers.

* Participates as an active member during team and case management meetings.

* Obtains demographic and other pertinent information during initial intake to assist with case management and follow-up

* Advocacy/Support: 40%

* Provides crisis assistance/intervention, support and advocacy.

* Supports day-to-day hotline operations including scheduling and supporting volunteers based on established policies and procedures.

* Provides day-to-day support to the direct serves team including answering calls to SVR extensions, scheduling meetings and appointments, reserving/booking space for meetings, and assisting with creating Advocates schedule/coverage for client walk-ins.

* Assists with purchasing survivor resources and other care package items

* Ensures survivors receive documentation and information related to student bill of student bill of rights, NYS Victims' Rights, Victims Compensation Information, etc.

* Works in partnership with direct services staff to coordinate care for clients and serves as a liaison for campus stakeholders seeking services for students

* Tracks and reports on all key indicators related to calls and intake assessments and maintains all documentation related to reporting for grants.

* Manage client expectations for all scheduled appointments and provides information to client's regarding their visit.

* Provides student accompaniment.

* Comply with Columbia Health policies and procedures and maintains confidentiality in the management of information.

* Perform other duties as assigned. 5%

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree and/or its equivalent experience required.

* Requires a minimum of 2 years' related experience or triage and intake, crisis intervention, or experience working with survivors of sexual assault.

* Knowledge of issues as they relate to sexual and intimate partner violence including legal rights of survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence in accessing civil and criminal legal systems.

* Experience providing crisis intervention and support, as well as strong administrative and project management skills.

* Demonstrates ability to take initiative, use critical thinking, and exercise astute judgment when supporting survivors and in handling situations not covered by verbal or written instructions.

* Displays courtesy, tact, and professionalism during interactions with survivors, volunteers, staff and across a variety of systems and extended community.

* Ability to build rapport and gain trust with diverse populations.

* Demonstrated ability to understand and implement best practices around services for at-risk individuals.

* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

* Able to maintain confidentiality, as required by policies, laws and in the best interests of survivors, staff and the department

* Ability to work within a collaborative team model of service delivery.

* Requires strong computer skills.

* Must be able to work after hours including evenings, weekends and holidays when required.

* Prior experience working with college students, and interest in higher educational setting.

* Demonstrated commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse student population with cultural competence and sensitivity.
