General Summary:
The Systems Integration Section Chief is responsible for managing a hardware-in-the-loop integration testing laboratory. The laboratory contains aircraft avionics, electrical systems, aircraft actuation hardware, real-time simulation, test electrical systems and associated components. The Section Chief oversees the design, construction, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of the facility. The laboratory is used for R&D, developmental testing, certification testing, production testing and customer service support. The Section Chief is responsible for the program management tasks in the lab environment including schedule development, schedule management, budget development, budget management and integration with the interfacing systems engineering disciplines for planning lab configuration and testing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Leads a team to design, build, maintain and lead the daily operation of advanced integration test facilities, for the development of integrated complex aircraft systems.
2. Works closely with program management and all aircraft engineering and flight test teams to support the lab's build and testing schedules.
3. Develops, coordinates and manages engineering integration program/project schedules and certification activities.
4. Interfaces with Engineering, Program Management Office, Facilities, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, HR, Customer Service, and other organizations as necessary to ensure laboratory availability is maintained and projects are completed according to program requirements and schedule.
5. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners.
6. Develops resource load plans and executes hiring to maintain and grow team to accomplish both short and long term goals.
7. Plan and manage multi-year budgets, planning and purchasing to maintain and upgrade lab to support newest programs and technologies.
8. Interfaces with suppliers as needed to support projects.
9. Reviews engineering documents including drawings, test plans, test reports, etc.
10. Provides engineering process leadership, especially in the areas of V&V of safety critical systems.
11. Provides project updates and reporting to management and/or Program Leadership as requires.
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
1. Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related.
2. 10 years of experience within aviation or aerospace industry or closely related industry is required.
3. 5 years of experience in electrical/systems/software development including V&V.
4. 3 years of experience building and leading technical teams solving complex problems.
5. Familiarity with hands-on troubleshooting across electrical, software, and mechanical domains.
6. Experience applying Systems Engineering principals in the Aerospace industry.
7. Experience managing test laboratory. Experience managing system test integration laboratory preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of aerospace engineering processes, certification requirements, and familiarity with flight test operations.
2. Working knowledge of FAR Part 23/25.
3. Working knowledge of Microsoft Project software.
4. Experience with FAA certification and knowledge of DO-178 and ARP4754 standards.
5. Experience with automated testing and model-based design.
6. Familiarity with SW version control and problem tracking tools (GIT/JIRA or similar) is desired.
7. Experience with engineering process tools for Requirement Management, Configuration Control and Version Control (DOORS, Confluence, Bitbucket, Teamcenter) desired.
8. Knowledge of CAD (CATIA) and PLM Systems (TeamCenter) desired.
9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Power Point) is required.
10. Excellent communication skills and a self-starter that takes initiative without supervision.
11. Able to effectively communicate and present to Senior Program and Engineering Leadership.
Physical Requirements:
1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided reach assistance technology or movement assist technology (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly's, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
