Interim Assistant Superintendent

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools
Qualifications:
* Minimum of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or University with specialization in Education Leadership.
* At least 10 years experience in education, part of which must have been in a classroom setting as well as in a supervisory capacity.
* Massachusetts Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent license (DESE) with SEI endorsement
* Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States.

* Belief in high academic standards, understanding of varied means of promoting academic excellence in public school education, and the ability to ensure that children receive a solid and academically rigorous education suited to their abilities.
* An ability to work effectively with diverse groups-faculty, administration, children, committee members, parents, taxpayers, etc.
* An ability to respond appropriately to criticism, to articulate the policies and practices of the schools, and to respond to current challenges, desires for change, and fiscal constraints.
* An ability to administer a labor contract.
* Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

To partner with the Superintendent of Schools to carry out the policies established by the school committee, and to promote the educational development of all students and staff.
Job Description:
The Assistant Superintendent will be under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Schools. The Assistant Superintendent shall provide leadership in the areas of MTSS, curriculum, assessment, instruction, learning environments, staff development, research, educational programs, and materials for the Mashpee Public Schools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Oversees, monitors, and evaluates the curriculum, instruction, learning environments, and assessment programs of the Mashpee Public Schools.
* Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction, and furnishes leadership to their appropriateness for inclusion in the district educational programs.
* Studies and evaluates, and as appropriate, recommends adoption of new instructional materials, methods, and programs, and assists in budget preparation for newly approved instruction programs as related to instructional supplies, equipment and materials.
* Provides leadership for system-wide curriculum review, curriculum revision/development, and the development of instructional programs at all levels and schools.
* Assists in planning programs of in-service educational activities for instructional personnel.
* Conducts analyses of state and district mandated testing and prepares reports for the Superintendent of Schools regarding student test performance and recommendations for improvement.
* Provides direction, supervision and evaluation to the curriculum program.
* As a designee of the superintendent and at the request of the superintendent, may meet with the School Committee, attend School Committee meetings, prepare reports for the Committee.
* Works with the Director of Special Education and Student Services to ensure equity in the instructional program for students with special needs.
* Provides effective and proactive leadership for system-wide professional development programs.
* Oversees the preparation and implementation of educational grants/proposals for the acquisition of federal and state grant funds.
* Works cooperatively with the Superintendent regarding budget recommendations to the School Committee.
* Ensures the fidelity of the Educator Evaluation System and assists with supervision and evaluation of instructional staff and building administrators.
* Oversees the district-wide teacher mentor and induction program.
* Applies a working knowledge of the Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to improve outcomes for all students.
* Recommends new and or revised school committee policies to the superintendent.
* Nominates personnel to be employed to the superintendent, and helps with recruitment of administrative personnel.
* Directs and supervises through the established chain of command the work of all employees.
* Ensures that suitable instructional materials and activities are selected by the professional staff.
* Ensures that written curricula documents or other manuals are available for use by educators in all curriculum areas. Devises methods to ensure that the scope and sequence of these manuals are carried out effectively and with consistency among the schools.
* Implements and interprets state laws and board policies with respect to pupils, staff and the community.
* Establishes and maintains effective school-community interaction programs, including publications and news releases.
* Conducts long-range planning for school district organization and school housing, including coordinating with other community agencies and ad hoc committees.
* Prepares annual and special reports to the Committee and community.
* In the absence of specific applicable policy, the assistant superintendent may take necessary action to address and resolve issues which require action in a time frame which does not permit or allow for school committee policy development.
* All other duties as assigned by the superintendent.
