Session: Spring/Summer (January - August) Position Title: GFP Intern - Hatchery Hiring Manager: Aaron Andrews Agency: Department of Game, Fish and Parks Location: Waubay Minimum Salary: $18.60*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.Position Description: The spring internships will begin in January. The opportunity exists for these positions to be either full-time (40 hr./week) or part-time (~20-40 hr./week) depending on the applicants schedule and will conclude when the applicant reaches a maximum of 1,560 hrs. or there is no longer a need for help. Blue Dog Hatchery interns will be involved in all aspects of hatchery operations, including fish culture activities such as feeding, fish inventories, and rearing unit cleanings. Interns will start off assisting with overwinter intensive cold water production (i.e., trout and salmon) and in the spring will shift to walleye spawning and extensive culture in rearing ponds. They will stock fish into public fish waters and perform building, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Interns will be required to work both indoors and outdoors, which will involve wearing waders, working in inclement weather, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The opportunity exists to play a key role in numerous hatchery research projects, primarily by collecting data and conducting literature reviews, but also by assisting with data analysis and manuscript preparation. Interns may also be assigned lead responsibilities on a specific research project if desired. Free on-site housing is available if needed. All degrees will be considered! Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
