Job Responsibilities:Non-Paid Internship - Joshua Glover RRCGeneral Information on Population:Joshua Glover RRC:
- Our facility provides substance use residential treatment services to males ages 18 and above.
- All residents are referred by the Department of Corrections and are currently on Probation.
- Residents have a wide range of convictions, including sex offenses.
- Residents often have a mental illness in addition to a substance abuse issue.
Brief Description of Program / Project:This position provides the opportunity for an intern to learn how to provide both individual and group counseling and case management to residents within a Residential Reentry Center. The intern would learn how to conduct substance use and mental health assessments, document weekly case notes, create a treatment plan, maintain records, and co-facilitate groups. The intern would work in a team setting with several clinical staff. Job Qualifications:Characteristics Desired in Student Intern:
- Interest in working with individuals with a substance use issue.
- Interest in working with individuals who a mental health issue.
- Interest in working with Department of Corrections.
- Ability to address all situations from a trauma informed approach
- Ability to work closely with other clinical, residential, and management staff members
- Ability to be independent and self-directed; maintain accountability and responsibility
- Ability to display cultural competence by responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values the worth
- Eagerness to learn and willingness to ask any questions to enhance ability to perform job responsibilities and meet their own expectations of what they what to learn through the internship/practicum
- Maintain client confidentiality within all written and verbal communications
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple complex tasks, strong professional communication and teamwork.
Training Requirements:
- Students must be part of a school program affiliated with counseling (MATC-AODA Certificate Program, Master's Level-Professional Counselor or Master's Level-Social Worker)
Health Requirements:
- Students must complete a physical/TB test prior to starting internship (WCS will provide assistance)
