Position Title: Intern - Park Maintenance Technician

Minimum Salary: $17.33

* APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description:

The Park Maintenance Technician internship is designed to develop skills in grounds and facility operations and maintenance of a State Park or Recreation Area and other areas as assigned. Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: herbicide applications to control noxious weeds in wildlands and turf; perform basic maintenance of grounds and facilities within the park boundaries; development of pollinator and wildlife food plots; tree cutting and pruning; and operation of ATVs, UTVs, tractors, mowers, hand and power tools. Knowledge of noxious weed identification and pesticide application is preferred.

Applicant must attain a Commercial Applicators License, with appropriate endorsements, within 2 weeks of employment.

Housing arrangements on site are available.

Qualifications:

Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
