Summary Dunmore is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented R&D Intern to join our team. This internship is ideal for students majoring in Chemistry or Material Science who are passionate about hands-on lab work and research innovation. The R&D intern will assist with various lab reorganization projects, lab data management improvements, wet lab workflows, and design of experiments (DOEs) focused on print primers and ink technology standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (describe the major responsibilities that are critical to the role)
- Assist in organizing and upgrading the laboratory to improve functionality and safety.
- Collaborate with the R&D team to identify opportunities for workflow enhancements and lab resource optimization.
- Work on planned improvements related to lab data capture, ensuring that data is accurately recorded, stored, and easily accessible.
- Support the development of better systems for organizing and managing lab records and experimental results.
- Assist in streamlining wet lab processes by applying the 5S methodology (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
- Support improvements in efficiency, cleanliness, and organization within the lab setting.
- Contribute to ongoing DOEs around print primers, evaluating the performance of various formulations and processes.
- Conduct research and testing aligned with current industry standards for popular ink technologies, ensuring that products meet or exceed quality benchmarks.
- Participate in team meetings and workshops to gain insights into plant operations and industry best practices.
- Travel and connect with interns from across the company at the Steel Partners intern summit.

- Strong interest in laboratory work, research methodologies, and materials development.

Education and Experience
- Currently pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) and other experimental design methods.
- Experience or coursework related to coatings, adhesives, or ink technologies.
- Knowledge of 5S or Lean methodologies in lab or industrial environments.
