Job Description:
Basic FunctionHF Sinclair in El Dorado, KS is seeking a Safety Intern for the Summer of 2025. Under close and frequent supervision, the intern will assist Safety Personnel by performing Safety related assignments for the Safety Department.Job Duties(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)
  • Coordinates project assignments with those of other safety personnel and technicians in his/her discipline group
May be required to do some or all of the following:
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and a safe environment for employees and the general public
  • Investigates and resolve work-in-process problems
  • Recommends and implement improvements and/or modification in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters
  • Improves profitability of the refinery
  • Assists in evaluation/conducting process hazard analysis for plant additions and modifications
  • Provides general Plant Safety support for the Refinery
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their manager, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretionExperienceNone required.Education LevelSome completed courses needed for a Bachelor's Degree in a Safety related Field are required. Completion of junior level courses is preferred.Required SkillsWorking knowledge of occupational safety and process safety, and ability to apply this knowledge. Special training/Certifications in Industrial Safety, Hazard Assessment, Air Monitoring, Radiation Safety, HAZWOPER, etc. Working knowledge of basic refinery practices and application of PSM Policies and Procedures. Ability to stand firm on doing the job safely if challenged, acting in diplomatic manner. Ability to evaluate and take prudent risks to accomplish work. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, basic reading and writing skills, and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Experience with statistical analysis of safety related data is preferred.Supervisory/Managerial ResponsibilityWork ConditionsOffice and plant based. Physical RequirementsJob conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential (inability to maintain standard insurance rates is grounds for dismissal), valid State driver¢€™s license and proof of insurance required. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.
