Job Description:

The International Logistics Manager is an international trade subject matter expert and will be responsible for JM's compliance and keeping up to date with the governmental laws and regulations that are applicable to JMs importing and exporting of product. They will partner with Legal, and other departments as needed, to ensure JM's policies and procedures align with the compliance requirements. The Manager will need to develop and implement and international logistic strategy that will integrate JM suppliers into our logistics network to ensure the uninterrupted flow of JM product that will optimize the highest service levels at the lowest total cost. The Manager will be required to develop strong relationships to professionally represent JM with suppliers and government agencies. The Manager will develop strong relationships across JM and will be required work closely with them to educate, train, and verify their compliance to JM's policy and procedures.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Responsible for JM's North American international compliance and shipping activities. They have an in depth understanding of the US governmental agency, and a good understanding of Canada and Mexico, compliance requirements and programs and international shipping processes (e.g., CTPAT, HTS classification, documentation, customs clearance, denied party screening, etc.) both strategically and operationally to ensure the uninterrupted movement of JM's products.
  • Responsible to communicate any compliance concerns to the Logistic Leaders if they observe or have concerns with JM or any party involved with the violation or potential violation of the laws, regulations, JM policy, etc. of the US/Canada or any other governing body that has oversight of a shipment.
  • Will manage US Customs CTPAT, Canada CARM and other programs as required.
  • Responsible to provide support to the JM organizational for other global trade programs (e.g., USMCA/CUSMA/T-MEC, KORUS, CBERA, GSP, CAFTA, Israeli Free Trade Agreement, etc.).
  • Will have an in depth understanding of the specific requirements for JM raw and finished product shipments (e.g., aluminum tariffs, mill certificates, antidumping and countervailing duties, etc.) for US, Canada and other countries as needed.
  • Responsible for HTS product classification and General Rules of Interpretation (GRI).
  • Responsible for managing international operational activities (e.g., managing Power of Attorneys (POA), surety bonds, liquidation process, Country of Origin, and Country of Origin for FTAs.)
  • Responsible to work closely with other JM Associates to ensure suppliers and customers are compliance with international procedures so JM is not inadvertently impacted.
  • Subject matter expert and manager of: tariff classification and valuation, harmonized tariff schedule for US, Canada, and other countries and required, customs tariff and General Rules of Interpretation (GRI), CBP liquidation process, Certificates of Origin, FTAs, and oversee Rules of Origin requirements.
  • Responsible for controlling international transportation costs for North America ocean and air shipments within and utilizing the appropriate Incoterms.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) managing the Canadian Border Services Agency CARM program and portal and CBSA compliance rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for annual budgeting for international cost forecasting and presenting budget details.
  • Supervises the international transportation Associate/s.
  • Oversees all elements of the JM export process from order placement in SAP, use of the appropriate Incoterm, through final delivery at the final destination.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) managing JM's Export Compliance Program encompassing Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), denied party screening, and security regulations surrounding foreign end-users with a high concentration on: involvement in restricted BIS, OFAC, DOC, DOT activities, identifying direct and indirect ownership and ties to restricted parties, identifying red flags, compliance with regulatory requirements and licensing determinations.
  • Subject Matter Export (SME) managing the JM Compliance Program for risk assessment and mitigation, export authorization and licensing jurisdiction and determination, recordkeeping, corporate training for import and export trade compliance, and training for international transportation, and leading international logistic audits.
  • Serves as primary international logistics point of contact for all JM Business Units surrounding international trade efforts, issues, and/or projects.
  • Liaison with:
  • CBP Centers for Excellence staff.
  • JM European team, assist with freight forwarder selection; manage the final leg of transportation for projects.
  • JM Legal for compliance on international trade and associated regulations.
  • Outside International Trade Attorney for their international trade expertise.
  • Monthly with the JM International Trade Compliance Council. Oversee most projects with JM's corporate owner Berkshire Hathaway.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience in operational import/export and compliance management position.
  • Customs Brokerage license a plus.
  • Solid experience of scoping, biding, negotiating and contracting associated international services (e.g., carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of US and good knowledge of Canada import and export regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Asia/Pacific, South American, and European import/export regulations.
  • Working knowledge and experience in execution of Letters of Credit and other documentary forms of payment of international transactions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Effective communicator with all levels of the JM and external organizations.
  • Minimal travel required (0-10 days per year).
  • Work environment is typical of an office setting.
