ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced International Logistics and Customs Compliance Manager to oversee the logistics and compliance functions of our global supply chain. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all international shipments are executed efficiently while maintaining full compliance with customs regulations and trade laws across multiple regions. This role requires a strategic mindset to optimize international freight movement, minimize risks, and ensure adherence to trade policies, while simultaneously managing costs and improving operational performance.
The successful candidate will lead all aspects of global logistics management, from negotiating contracts with freight forwarders to ensuring the proper classification of goods, managing customs clearances, and implementing best practices in trade compliance. You will collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as procurement, finance, and legal to ensure a smooth and legally compliant international logistics operation. In addition, you will play a key role in mitigating regulatory risks, driving process improvements, and capitalizing on opportunities to reduce costs through duty management programs, free trade agreements, and optimized shipping strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and optimize global logistics operations, including international shipping schedules, routing, transportation modes, and the coordination of shipments with freight forwarders and 3PL providers.
- Negotiate contracts with carriers and freight service providers to secure cost-effective rates while ensuring service quality and reliability.
- Develop and enforce procedures for efficient inbound and outbound logistics processes, improving shipment tracking, visibility, and lead time reduction.
- Monitor shipping performance metrics, ensuring timely delivery, freight cost management, and customer satisfaction
- Ensure that all import and export activities comply with applicable local, regional, and international customs regulations.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all documentation required for international shipments, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and customs entries.
- Develop comprehensive reporting systems to track and analyze logistics performance, compliance metrics, and cost trends.
- Lead the classification of goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and ensure accurate customs declarations are submitted for all shipments.
- Serve as the primary liaison with customs authorities, brokers, and government agencies, managing customs clearance processes and resolving any issues that arise.
- Oversee duty reduction strategies, including tariff engineering, duty drawback programs, and the use of free trade agreements (FTAs).
- Monitor changes in trade and customs regulations, ensuring the organization is updated and compliant with new requirements.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to customs clearance, regulatory compliance, tariffs, and potential delays in the international supply chain.
- Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives, such as leveraging free trade agreements, optimizing tariff classifications, and utilizing duty drawback programs.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in global trade and customs compliance, providing guidance and leadership on international logistics matters across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- 5-7 years of experience in international logistics, customs compliance, and global trade regulations.
- Experience leading importing/exporting operations in the consumer goods vertical.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating with freight carriers and managing third-party logistics providers.
- Extensive knowledge of HTS codes, Incoterms, customs brokerage, and import/export documentation.
- Experience with export control laws such as ITAR, EAR, and sanctions enforcement.
- Proficiency with customs compliance software and ERP systems such SAP, Oracle, and NetSuite.
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade,
- or a related field
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Licensed Customs Broker, or Certified Export Specialist (CES) are a plus.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
