Overview Shive-Hattery's Iowa City office has an opportunity for a Construction Services Civil Engineering Summer Intern. As one of our summer interns you will perform hands-on, real-world work that will transform your classroom experience and help you envision your future career. You'll be part of a team, working for our clients on projects with our most experienced staff. You'll provide assistance on field and laboratory reports, conduct field inspections and material testing for a variety of projects. You'll get an introduction to Shive-Hattery's culture that will help you evaluate our firm as a career choice. Our group works on a wide variety of project and material types related to industrial, healthcare, education, government, and commercial buildings. Requirements
- Student in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited engineering school
- Able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal skills
- Effective oral and written communication
- Curiosity and motivation to learn through both mentorship and self-study
- Must have a valid Driver's License Requirements Responsibilities
- Learning the fundamentals of how our design efforts are implemented during the construction phase.
- Perform field and laboratory tests related to soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt.
- Conduct tests on construction materials at constructions sites and in the Iowa City Laboratory.
- Observe the installation of construction materials and keep detailed notes.
- Provide/submit clear documentation of all findings and results.
