Department/College Description

The Department of Access Services (DAS) at RIT/NTID seeks candidates to join the largest staff of interpreters working in postsecondary education. RIT/NTID is a dynamic, language-rich environment of 1,200 deaf students, staff, and faculty on a campus of nearly 17,000 students. DAS boasts a phenomenal professional development program that offers over 400 hours of PD annually. The interpreting component of Access Services is organized into six interpreting teams. Interpreters work primarily in the specialized content areas of their teams, which correspond with the eleven colleges of RIT.

DAS hires interpreters whose skills range from entry level to senior level. A candidate's experience, language proficiency, and interpreting skill are considered before hiring into the Apprentice, Associate, or Interpreter rank.

Please note, individual is hired based on their skill level with commensurate salary range. Interpreter levels are:

Interpreter $25.13-$42.09 119H

Senior Interpreter $28.89-$48.39 120H

Job Summary

Interpreters provide accurate interpretation across a broad range of the English-ASL continuum. Interpreters are competent to take any given assignment within the core team and many assignments outside of their core team area. Interpreters demonstrate comprehension in the assessment and self-assessment of interpreting and interpreting processes.

Interpreters' professional development might include serving as a mentor to a student, apprentice or fellow interpreter. Interpreters demonstrate skills in providing professional development in topics of their professional interest. Interpreters are required to demonstrate growth and breadth in their proficiency through a commitment to professional development.
