Job Description:
The Disease Research & Intervention Specialist (DRIS) will work in the booking area of the King County Correctional Facility and perform rapid testing for HIV, syphilis and HCV. This position will also follow up on all positive cases to assure they are adequately treated and elicit any partner information. The DRIS will conduct disease surveillance, rapid point of care testing, patient interviewing, partner collection, linkage to testing or treatment, counseling and referrals, and timely documentation of investigation findings into surveillance systems and EPIC. To learn more, please visit Investigating case reports of persons diagnosed with syphilis Interpret diagnostic testing results, inform patients of results, and link positive patients to treatment Interview patients diagnosed with syphilis and to elicit partner information Contact untreated patients and notify exposed partners that are currently incarcerated to arrange for examination, diagnosis, and/or medical treatment. Perform rapid point of care tests and venipuncture to collect STI specimens for testing Provide patients with information about potential health risks related to STIs/HIV and assist in developing a client-centered plan to reduce future risk for STIs/HIV Assure confidentiality of all records, data, and information as required by section, department, state and/or federal regulation Other duties as assigned Required: Knowledge of HIV and STI transmission modes, symptoms, and implications. Demonstrated interviewing and partner elicitation skills Experience in medical chart abstraction using electronic health records and/or other client level data repositories Experience working in a multi-disciplinary clinic-setting Demonstrated ability to provide medical information in a clear and concise manner with health literacy in mind Knowledge and demonstrated application of motivational interviewing skills Knowledge and demonstrated application of behavior change theory and risk reduction strategies Demonstrated ability to protect Public Health Information (PHI) and other confidential information. Demonstrated ability to follow procedures/protocols and apply them to unpredictable situations Demonstrated ability to work effectively and connect with people of diverse backgrounds Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function with minimal direct supervision Team player with a willingness to be flexible Possess a valid WA State driver's license or ability to obtain upon hire.
