This position will also conduct criminal investigations.A criminal background check is required. Essential Duties•Conduct interviews with clients in order to gather accurate and detailed information abut the facts supporting the crimes charged.•Compile financial information to assess eligibility for services;•Research the court system for information regarding prior convictions.•Recognize potential conflicts with existing clients and refer case to Court Administration.•Contact District Court to verify preliminary hearing dates and to request copies of the criminal complaints.•Contact private attorneys to confirm retention by applicant or their family.•If applicable, provide translation services for attorneys, Spanish-speaking clients, and to translate documents.•Review investigation requests and discovery materials pertaining to the case.•Meet with assigned attorney to discuss the investigation request.•Ascertain witnesses' whereabouts via the phone, visits to the scene and neighborhood interviews.•Interview key witnesses and prepare a written report.•Take photographs and prepare sketches of the crime scene; take measurements of relevant areas.•Prepare supplemental interviews and reports.•Meet with trial attorney to report findings.•Serve subpoenas.•Assist client and client's family to contact agencies in order to obtain copies of birth certificate and other relevant documents.•Determine whether there is a conflict with a client in the database.•Provide transportation of defendants and defense witnesses to and from courthouse.•Serve last-minute subpoenas for witnesses or documents.•Review summary of trial testimony with Spanish-speaking defendants using the trial attorney's outline.•Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience Qualifications / Requirements:•High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).•Six months to one year of job-related experience.•Ability to follow client financial eligibility guidelines of Public Defender's Office.•Ability to follow established Office Manual regarding the application process.•Must comply with rules and regulations established in the County of Chester Handbook.•Strong verbal and written communications skills.•Excellent interpersonal skills.•Strong mathematical skills.•Ability to establish priorities.•Accurate and detail-oriented.•Strong organizational and time management skills.•Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.•Ability to follow office protocol.•Basic skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.•Knowledge and skill with modern office equipment (fax, copier, calculator, etc.).•A valid driver's license is required.Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:•Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice or related field.•Three years of job-related experience.•Ability to speak, read and write Spanish a plus.•Strong professional ethics.•Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.•Easily adapts to changes in the work environment.•Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.•Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.•Exhibits sound and accurate judgement.•Strong customer service skills.•Ability to multi-task.•Flexibility.Additional Information Relevant background checks, clearances, physicals, drug tests, and any other assessments or evaluations will be conducted after an offer of employment is given per County policy.Computer Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:•Basic Word skills•Basic OutLook skills (Email and Calendar)•Basic Internet skills•Knowledge of Court Management SystemThe County of Chester offers comprehensive benefits to our employees. 01 What is your highest level of education?
