Summary of position:
1. Provide Pre-game assistance
* Assist in field maintenance; such as marking lines for the fields, mowing grass and other duties needed to prepare the field for play.
* Assist in setting up equipment for the evening and/or weekend activities.
* Sign-in and check student ID's of Intramural teams.
* Assist in examining facility/field for safety hazards.
2. Provide quality officiating during contests
* View and follow the Intramural Sports contest, and enforce the rules/policies judiciously as possible.
* Oversee the Intramural Sports contest and ensure participation takes place in a safe manner.
* If keeping score, must view and follow the game and correctly and legibly record the score/stats.
3. Non-Intramural Sports Duties
* Intramural Sports Staff also are utilized by performing other tasks within the Recreational Sports Department facilities, such as inventory, equipment assembling and field maintenance at outdoor fields.
* Helping to promote the Recreational and Intramural Sports Departments is also expected. This is done by distributing flyers around the Lamar Beaumont and Lamar Institute of Technology campuses and attending orientations to provide information to anyone interested.
* Help set up, break down and oversee Sport Club events.
* Other duties, as assigned.
Graduate Students are not eligible to apply.
Minimum Qualifications
* Participation and sports officiating experience is preferred.
* A thorough knowledge of the sports being officiated.
* Physical ability to keep up with the sports being officiated.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Must be available in the evening from 5-10pm, which is when most of our events operate.
* Must also be available weekends for when certain events are coordinated.
* Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Physical Requirements
* Physical ability to keep up with the pace of the sports being officiated.
Certifications Required
* Participation and sports officiating experience is preferred.
Work Hours 10-19.5 per week Job Conditions
Officiating sports is also an outdoor job and will require the job to work in certain weather conditions such as: cold, heat and rainy weather.
Additional Instructions for Applicants
Attendance is required for the mandatory training and evaluation sessions. All officiating positions require being among the top applying in field/court officiating evaluation and written exams for that sport.
Student must be able to communicate fluently in English both in writing and orally. He/she should be able to understand and give instructions. Student should be energetic and professional.
Must be able to tactfully, firmly, and impartially enforce rules.
Must be able to exhibit professional appearance and attitude.
Must be able to think and respond quickly in emergency situations.
