Summary This inventory Management position is organizationally aligned to the Operating Room area within Surgical Care at the VA Illiana Health Care System. The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for facilitating the continuous, smooth flow of services between the Central Supply departments, the operating room, logistics, and the surgical clinics. Responsibilities Major Duties: Coordinates equipment, instrumentation, and supply trials for potential purchase in the operating room and surgical clinic settings. Responsible for coordinating vendors in the operating room. Responsible for submitting equipment and CPRC requests for supplies/equipment/instrumentation needed for the operating room and in clinic areas. This includes collection of all necessary information and completion of required document. Coordinates the request/ordering of annual replacement equipment for purchase for Surgical Service. Coordinates the request/ordering of replacement equipment due to failure, outdates, etc. Meets with physicians, nursing staff, and other appropriate personnel to determine equipment and instrumentation needs. Shares knowledge/information of equipment/supply purchases/problems by proper communication to the staff. Works closely with operating room staff nurses to revise case cart supply items on an ongoing basis. Assists with creating/maintaining appropriate, adequate, and organized storage of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation. Initiates evaluation and cost analysis of supplies and equipment. Back up for implant coordinator. COR for surgical contract. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: Knowledge of planning and inventory management systems and the impact of variables such as cost, existing policies and procedures, data processing requirements, and other issues that influence the course of action. Maintaining inventory control records in an automated system; searching for information and the ability to prepare and analyze reports. Possessing knowledge of knowledge base of all equipment, supplies and surgical procedures used or performed in the operating room and the specialty clinics. OR EDUCATION: Must have 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Education at the graduate level must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position and be related to the position. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. Superior Academic Achievement is based on class standing, grade-point average, or honor society membership. - Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. - Grade-point Average - Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major filed completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. - Election to membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society - Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies. Coordinating all aspects of implant management by working with SCM, PSAS, SPS, the VHA CO and all clinical areas using implants. Ensuring that VA and VHA policies governing the management of implants are followed. OR EDUCATION: Must have a Masters or equivalent graduate degree, (or) 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, (or) LL.B. or J.D. if related. Education at the graduate level must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position and be related to the position.
