Job Description:

MORE ABOUT THIS JOB:

Product Development in the Investment Banking Division (IBD)

The Investment Banking Division (IBD) at Goldman Sachs works on some of the most complex financial challenges and transactions in the market today. Whether advising on a merger, providing financial solutions for an acquisition, or structuring an IPO, we handle projects that help a diverse range of clients achieve major milestones.

The IBD Digital Product team builds and maintains the very applications our bankers use day-in day-out to make those achievements a reality. The systems we support present unique and sophisticated challenges not often found in other businesses. As such, our environment relies on thoughtful, strategic thinkers to push the boundaries of what we build and how we build.

Our team believes that innovative, thoughtfully-designed, and well-built applications shouldnt be reserved for consumer products, and we believe in the impact that design and technology can make on the enterprise software our business runs on.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for a front-end UI developer who is passionate about building modern, sophisticated, and scalable user interfaces. You will collaborate closely with our designers to define, interpret, and enhance the experience, and will equally need to be comfortable working independently to ensure that flexible and reusable solutions are implemented.

You should have experience working with popular responsive front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, and a strong desire to build and maintain such a framework for our suite of products. You should be very comfortable developing such components using the latest versions of React, HTML, CSS, and Javascript without the need to rely on third-party frameworks yourself.

You should have an understanding of cloud services and APIs, and be mindful about how they will integrate with your front-end code. You will collaborate often with our broader engineering team to ensure these services are easily deployed without disruption to the intended user experience.

You should be comfortable with ambiguity and asking questions from either designers or other engineers to form an understanding of the best way to solve a problem before solving it.

In this role, you will have a large degree of autonomy and ownership over the final product experience. Our environment can be very fast-paced at times, and you should feel confident in your abilities to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Partner with our design team to access and translate UI designs using Figma prototypes
  • Build mobile-responsive components and pages using ReactJS, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Build and store components and elements for flexibility and reuse. Maintain a well-documented and organized repository of all components
  • Ensure code quality and interface reliability by adhering to the latest cross-browser standards and thoroughly testing the applications youre building
  • Seek out opportunities to improve the performance and stability of our interfaces.
  • Collaborate with the data, cloud, and API teams to ensure the front-end code poses no roadblocks to deployment

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or a closely related technical field
  • At least 3 years of professional software development experience with front end web development (ReactJS, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3)
  • A proficiency with the required development languages without the need to rely on libraries
  • Experience developing responsively for mobile, tablet, and desktop
  • An understanding of major browsers, the special considerations required for each, and experience debugging cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility issues
  • A desire and ability to maintain a repository and the accompanying documentation of an in-house front-end UI framework
  • Knowledge of front-end security best practices
  • Understanding of DevOps / versioning tools such as GIT
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A portfolio or work samples demonstrating your skillsets

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong understanding of the visual and human-computer interaction design disciplines
  • Ability to accurately estimate level of effort and feel comfortable suggesting alternative approaches to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Expertise in the latest front-end web technologies and the desire to suggest such advancements to enhance our products
  • An incredibly strong attention to detail and organization, both in the UI and in your codebase
  • Experience with UI testing (manual or automated)
