Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) is currently seeking experienced Industrial Structural Iron Workers.
Position Summary
Structural Iron Workers will construct iron/steel structures to specifications.
RCI has various levels of Iron Worker positions based on experience and skills ranked as follows:
* Iron Worker Leadman: NCCER Certified Iron Worker that has demonstrated competency in fabricating, raising, placing, and joining girders, columns, beams, and other structural members to form completed structures or structure frameworks as a working member of an Iron Working crew.
* Iron Worker I: NCCER Certified. Same as Iron Worker Leadman but with 95% ability or greater. Must have 5+ years of experience in industrial iron work.
* Iron Worker II: Same as Iron Worker Leadman but with 90% ability or greater. Must have 3 to 5 years of experience in industrial iron work.
* Iron Worker III: Same as iron Worker Leadman but with 80% ability of greater. Applies to 1st year apprentice or greater in iron working trades.
Qualification Highlights:
* Must possess all knowledge skills and abilities for position
* Must be familiar with structural steel piece marks and steel erection drawings
* Must be able to meet all physical requirements
* Must be able to work at heights in excess of 300 feet in elevation
* Must have good communication skills
* Must have all required tools
* Must be able to regulary and reliably show up at the assigned job site
* Must meet all safety and security requirements of the assigned job site
Position Responsibilities:
* Read engineered drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations in space (coordinates), quantities, and sizes of materials required
* Identify all tools required for tasks
* Identify safety risks and precautions required to eliminate those risks
* Fabricate steel or equipment according to engineered drawings or instructions from supervisors
* Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane
* Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels
* Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following engineered drawings and instructions from supervisors
* Bolt aligned structural steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting
* Pull, push or pry iron/steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment
Required Qualifications for Iron Workers inclusive of various positions:
* Leadership Abilities
* Ability to take lead in erection of steel, fabrication, grid layout, rigging, etc.
* Ability to perform all job duties of craft trade
* Drawings
* Ability to read and understand Issued For Construction (IFC) Drawings
* Ability to make hang lists, read details off drawings, read all notes on drawings before erection, location and understand Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) or holds on drawings
* Understand when to stop production work and when a Request For Information (RFI) needs to be initiated and answered in order to re-start productive work
* Read and understand craft specs and cut sheets, craft spec procedures and recommendations
* Able to locate piece marks for correct views and know how to pick out different elevations
* Ability to know the correct installation based on the orientation
* Knowledge of symbols based on Legends
* Rigging
* Knowledge of all types of safe rigging practices (chokers, slings, etc.)
* Ability to dictate correct knots based on material
* Connection
* Know all aspects of connecting
* Know correct procedures for Bolting
* Knowledge of Torque or Tensioning methods used for connecting joints
* Fabrication
* Ability to read cut sheets
* Ability to layout for fabrication from drawings
* Cut material from raw material according to the layout and cut sheets provided
* Torque vs. Tension
* Knowledge of Torque values
* Knowledge of Tension
* Turn-of-the-nut method
* Knowledge of different types of indicators
* Understand how to use a Skidmore
* Plan Work and Schedule
* Ability to take drawings, required material, line out helpers, and execute work safely
* Tools and Knowledge
* Knowledge of specialty tools (torque wrench, Skidmore, torque guns, mag drills, hogan drills, etc.)
* Welding and Cutting
* Basic knowledge of cutting torch, setup, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips and when to use different tips
* Equipment Use
* Knowledge of JLG's, man baskets, cranes, forklifts, etc.
* Basic maintenance (inspections)
* Safe operation practices
* Signaling of Equipment (ERTS, NCCCO, NCCER)
* Flagging of cranes, forklifts, manlifts, etc.
* Knots
* Tying knots for tag lines, etc.
* Basic knots for lashing
* Math Skills
* Footage, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, etc. to perform craft duties

* Richard Construction Inc. (RCI) former employee from a Reduction of Force (ROF)
* National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Certification as an Iron Worker

Physical Requirements:
* Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting
* Will talk and hear in order to communicate effectively
* Must have good dexterity with hands and fingers to perform the precision adjustments of tools and connection points
* Able to use arms and hands to signal, grad, hold, turn, and push or pull objects such as materials, controls, and tools
* Will be required to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
* Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms and manlifts
* May occasionally work out on an open structure using the appropriate fall protection requirements
* Will work at heights up to 300 feet utilizing proper fall protection devices
* Will use vision abilities to focus, see short distances, see colors, possess depth perception and peripheral vision
* Must be capable or working outdoors in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
* Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, earplugs/muffs, safety vests, gloves, steel toe/safety toe boots, and masks/respirators
