ISO Systems/Sustainability Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and maintain ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 standards at the local level, ensuring alignment with global ISO standards and guidelines.
  • Define internal goals, objectives, targets, and KPIs/EnPIs to ensure compliance and track progress against set standards.
  • Collect and maintain data, documentation, communication, and provide periodic ISO Key Performance Indicators (KPIs/EnPIs) and other metrics.
  • Conduct periodic Management Reviews for Site Management concerning ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and Sustainability systems and efforts.
  • Act as an auditor in Regional Audits of ISO systems at other sites and participate as an auditee in Global, Regional, Internal (local), and/or External Audits (by certifying body) of local systems.
  • Initiate and drive corrective and preventive actions identified during audits.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time as required.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and other relevant environmental regulations and standards.
  • Monitor, review, and assess the progress of EMS programs, coordinating cross-functional activities to improve environmental performance.
  • Serve as the technical expert on EMS matters and provide guidance to EMS teams/sub-teams and project/task owners.
  • Collaborate with the emergency response team to address and investigate environmental incidents and ensure timely implementation of identified CAPAs if/when required.
  • Enforce environmental regulations and support management during regulatory inspections and internal/external audits.
  • Responsible for reducing the environmental impacts of the site/Production Unit.
  • Coordinate regulatory compliance efforts to ensure environmental procedures and permit applications and renewals are budgeted for, prepared, and submitted to regulatory agencies on time, including annual reports to NYSDEC/USEPA, and other applicable local/state/federal municipalities and regulatory bodies.
  • Serve as the EMS technical expert to the site and provide input for maintaining the organization's sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to EMS teams/sub-teams and project/task owners in applying strategies for risk avoidance and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage all hazardous, non-hazardous, biohazard, and universal waste, including accumulation, storage, manifesting, transport arrangements, and cost analysis of associated disposal.
  • Supervise 1-3 direct reports.
  • Administer and maintain records for the Universal Hazardous Waste Manifest inventory for hazardous and non-hazardous regulated medical and biohazard wastes.
  • Administer and maintain records for hazardous waste management and ensure compliance with disposal regulations.
  • Drive sustainability efforts within the organization, including assessing environmental aspects and reducing environmental impacts.
  • Provide input for maintaining organizational sustainability initiatives and support sustainability projects as necessary.
  • Coordinate regulatory compliance efforts, including preparing and submitting permit applications and renewals to regulatory agencies such as EPA, DEC, ISO, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Enforce environmental regulations and support management during regulatory inspections and internal/external audits.
  • Provide guidance, training, and assistance to ensure effective environmental measures are implemented and compliance is maintained.
  • Create and present metrics-based reports to site, regional, and global management teams as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience in ISO / Environmental and Sustainability experience within the biopharmaceuticals industry.
  • Experience in managing environmental management systems and sustainability programs. Certification in RCRA Hazardous Waste Management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in conducting audits and implementing corrective actions.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.

EDUCATION

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Master s degree is a PLUS
  • Certification in Lead Auditor Training for ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 standards is a PLUS
