Job Description:
Custom Job Purpose:This position exists to perform responsible technical and professional work in the planning, design, operation and management of instructional and non-instructional microcomputer networks.Essential Functions of this JobCoordinates and supervises the planning, designing and installation of instructional and non-instructional microcomputer networks and related services. Coordinates functions and procedures necessary to install and maintain microcomputer network hardware and software. Installs software routines necessary to network microcomputers. Oversees local area network stations and fileservers. Ability to configure and manage network switching hardware.Coordinates with local administrators and teachers regarding the needs assessment and planning necessary to manage the growth of local area networks. Assists in the preparation of detailed bid specifications and diagrams. Coordinates technology projects as specified, which includes assisting in the development of project plans for PC, server and network component deployments, and software application usage. Facilitates communication between IST staff, schools and vendors on technology related projects including coordinating meetings with the schools to determine how to integrate the schools' technology plans with current IST projects. Provides and/or coordinates training to local staff in network administration and support.Conducts on-site technology reviews with school personnel to evaluate school compliance to district technology standards and procedures.Maintains an inventory of the school based networks including, server hardware and software, and infrastructure devices.Non-Essential Functions of this JobPerforms other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Demonstrated knowledge of the school system, school technology applications and procedures or related experience. Considerable working knowledge of the operating characteristics, capabilities and limitations of microcomputers and associated networks. Considerable knowledge of microcomputer network wiring, network design and network traffic flow. Demonstrated ability to analyze and correct complex network problems related to Local and Wide Area Networks. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to clearly communicate understandable complex technical information to those without a technical background. Demonstrated ability to follow through to completion those complex tasks necessary to activate and troubleshoot network installations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationship with school administrators, teachers and district staff. Demonstrated willingness to continue learning/training in related areas. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.Education, Experience and/or Certification/License RequirementsAssociate degree in Arts or Science from an accredited college or university, or equivalent technical training at the post secondary level. Four or more years of successful experience in microcomputer network design and installation of Microsoft network operating systems, or equivalent combination of training and experience.Work Context:Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with internal and external contacts, and with the public.Physical Environment:Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
