Position Summary

The IT Portfolio Management Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and tracking of IT projects within the organization. This role involves managing the IT project portfolio to ensure alignment with business objectives, optimizing resource allocation, and delivering projects on time and within budget. The IT Portfolio Management Manager works closely with senior leadership, project managers, and other stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives and improve project outcomes.

Accountable for business results primarily achieved through the work of others. Manages staff, sets direction, and deploys resources. Has responsibility for employee development, performance reviews, pay reviews, and staffing decisions. Accountable for business, functional or operational areas, processes, or programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the IT project portfolio, ensuring projects are aligned with the organizations strategic goals and priorities. Evaluate and prioritize projects based on business value, resource capacity, and risk.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of a team of IT professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure assignments are completed in accordance with established guidelines and advice on conflicting priorities.
  • Understands the overall organizational vision and collaborates with management to set team goals that translate into actionable plans at the team level.
  • Establish and maintain governance processes for portfolio management. Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor portfolio performance. Prepare and present regular status reports to senior management.
  • Maintains a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement and leads the team through periods of change and transformation. Lead change management efforts related to portfolio adjustments and process improvements. Ensure smooth transitions and adoption of new practices across the organization.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to identify technology needs and opportunities and works with internal IT groups to provide effective solutions to address business needs. Develop and drive continuous improvement initiatives and techniques within the IT portfolio management function. Implement best practices, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial tracking of the IT project portfolio. Ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets and financial targets.
  • Assists in the development and management of the department budget, tracking expenses, and ensures that resources are allocated effectively to meet business requirements.
  • Stays abreast of the latest technology trends, industry advancements, and regulatory changes, and makes recommendations for adopting new technologies to improve operational efficiency.
  • Assesses and identifies technology needs and opportunities, making recommendations for system enhancements, upgrades, or replacements. Continuously seeks opportunities to optimize processes and workflows.
  • Partners with leadership to develop strong business cases for technology initiatives.
  • Responsible for recruitment, development, retention, performance management of talent to meet needs of the business.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or other computer-related degree required.
  • 10+ years of diversified IT experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT portfolio management and proven track record managing complex IT portfolios required.
  • 3+ years of experience directly leading professional staff required.
  • SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Certification preferred.
