This position provides mid-level expertise in the management of the enterprise-wide network infrastructure hardware, software, and related services. The Network Engineer II will be expected to: install, configure, and manage network communications hardware and software; monitor and manage network performance; manage various network services and address/designation systems related to network communications; work closely with vendors and others to provide a network infrastructure that meets the needs of the organization; establish and communicate policies, procedures, and standards for the use of the network infrastructure; ensure that critical business functions are protected from disruption due to network failure or unavailability; acts as a technical consultant to others in various areas of expertise.
Responsibilities:(40%)* Installs, configures, and manages network communication infrastructure components, such as routers, switches, wireless systems, communication devices, cabling, etc. Maintains network equipment and network management
systems at correct software levels. Troubleshoots network communication and configuration problems.
(40%)* Recommends and prepares equipment configurations for additions and modifications to the network infrastructure to meet the needs of applications and users consistent with established organizational standards and practices.
(20%)* Monitors, manages, and reports network performance and resource utilization; projects future utilization and recommends capacity and upgrade approaches. Analyzes network traffic to resolve and prevent problems.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establishes, documents, and communicates and monitors compliance with policies, procedures, and standards relating to the use, operation, and deployment of the network infrastructure in conformance with MyMichigan standards.
Manages various naming, designation, and address assignment systems and related servers consistent with MyMichigan standards and operational requirements.
Investigates opportunities and develops proposals to take advantage of network and computing technologies that best meet needs of organization.
Participates and often leads on project teams to implement projects throughout organization. Participates on building and design project teams as representative of IR department.
Participates in troubleshooting and problem solving efforts for a broad range of IT technical issues.
Consults with users, IT department, and others in organization on network issues and capabilities and other areas of expertise.
Trains others on network technologies, installation standards, best practices and related topics.
Develops and tests disaster recovery plan for network communications. Develops and implements backup strategies appropriate to applications and consistent with user needs.
Assists in the management of network servers and software, including network application support and administration of network servers.

Certifications and Licensures:N/A
Required Education:Associates degree or two years completed toward a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Computer/Information Science/Business, commitment to obtain Bachelor's degree within three years of hire date, and a minimum of five (5) years of technical experience in the field is required.
**Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Other Information:
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
CompTIA Network+ certification required. Equivalent certifications will be considered.
Cisco CCNA in route/switch or wireless preferred. Equivalent non-Cisco certifications will be considered.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
