MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
* A Bachelor's degree in a Computer related field and four (4) years' experience in Local Area Networks, Microsoft Office 365, personal computer and workstation operating systems, preferably in a government setting required. OR
* An Associate degree in a Computer related field and eight (8) years' experience in Local Area Networks, Microsoft Office 365, personal computer and workstation operating systems, preferably in a government setting required. OR
* High School Diploma or GED and twelve (12) years' experience in experience in Local Area Networks, Microsoft Office 365, personal computer and workstation operating systems, preferably in a government setting required.
* Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
*This is not a remote position and requires working onsite*
EMERGENCY DECLARATION STATUS
Non-essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident by incident basis, the employee's Department Head will make the determination when the employee will be required to work.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs specialized technical work in the configuration, installation and maintenance of personal computers, workstations, printers, and associated peripherals and assists the Network Administrator with the configuration, installation and maintenance of Local and Wide Area Networks for the City Information Technology Department. Work involves assisting City personnel in the use of personal computer and workstation equipment, including instruction, systems analysis and design of spreadsheets and databases, component configuration and installation. Employee is responsible for diagnosing and resolving operational problems in programs and software for the City's individual personal computers and workstations. Responsibility extends to the installation and configuration of the network operating system (NOS) and related software on all servers, switches, and routers and other network communication devices. Employee is also responsible for advising and training users; installing hardware and software; and reviewing available computer equipment and software to make recommendations for acquisition. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in all phases of work. Reports to the Communications & Information Technology Director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Install, setup, and configure the city's personal computers and workstations, associated software, and peripherals.
Develop specifications for information systems and other computer related equipment. Review and test new information systems, make acquisition recommendations, and prepare purchase requests as required.
Troubleshoots hardware and software problems and errors in computer equipment or software, determines cause of error or stoppage and applies corrective steps or standard operational techniques in cases where stoppage can be corrected. Advises Users of operational techniques to correct stoppage, as appropriate.
Assists the Network Administrator with the configuration, installation, and maintenance of the Local and Wide Area Network. Perform Network Administration tasks to include creating, deleting, and modifying User ID's, creating, deleting, and modifying e-mail accounts, and configuring user's server-based data.
Tracks, troubleshoots, and corrects network related issues either logged through the help desk and/or recorded through the monitoring of the network.
Consults with users to determine hardware, software or systems functional specifications.
Monitors performance of servers and network communications devices (such as switches, routers, etc.) and takes appropriate action to tune and optimize such devices to maximize performance and throughput and minimize downtime.
Monitors disk capacity and takes appropriate action to ensure adequate disk space is available to networked users, software applications, and attached devices.
Diagnoses and repairs or coordinates repair of network hardware.
Configures and maintains user access to the Internet. Configures and maintains the City Internet e-mail accounts.
Analyzes and tests new and existing information systems, software, and procedures. Recommends and implements changes to improve information systems performance.
Assists City personnel in design and formatting of various databases, spreadsheets, reports and other projects.
Maintains inventory of all personal computer and workstation hardware and software in the City. Maintains inventory of all network hardware and software in the City. Coordinates the disposal of obsolete equipment.
Conducts annual audits on all personal computers, workstations, and network equipment in the City.
Installs, maintains and repairs the City's computer equipment, contacting outside service vendors as necessary. Performs hardware and software upgrades as needed.
Relocates equipment and software as needed.
Creates and maintains miscellaneous user manuals. Prepares computer-generated graphs and charts for projects as requested. Conducts user training sessions as needed.
Participates in a weekly on call rotation of on call function for after-hours support.
