Salary : $63,344.95 - $93,960.54 Annually Location : City Hall - Administration 776 NE 125 St North Miami, FL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 2013 -00604 Department: Information Technology Opening Date: 11/06/2024 Closing Date: 11/17/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Description The Systems Administrator position is advanced technical work in design, development, and implementation of new software systems, communication and coordination with end users, and IT specialists in defining system specifications to meet the needs of user. The Systems Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer software systems and server specific network connections. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all server OS and infrastructure software and communication links. The employee will also analyze and resolve end user software program and connectivity issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. Essential Job Functions
  • Sets up users with access to the computer systems with proper security;
  • Writes system and security related programs;
  • Reviews system resources, performance and does maintenance;
  • Debugs Infrastructure Applications/Software problems;
  • Works with users to resolve application problems;
  • Installs new network and server software and software upgrades;
  • Tests network and server software to determine its usefulness and integrity;
  • Solves Hardware and Software System problems (hangs, crashes);
  • Reviews security for problems;
  • Makes recommendations on Software integration;
  • Manages and administers all operating systems and their corresponding or associated software;
  • Manages and ensures the integrity of host computers, multiple databases and data transfer;
  • Designs and implements disaster recovery plan for operating systems, databases, networks, servers, and software applications;
  • Provides on-call technical support;
  • Analyzes system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in network capacity;
  • Assess need for any system reconfigurations and execute when required;
  • Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts;
  • Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure software products and services;
  • Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use;
  • Establish service level agreements with end users;
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights;
  • Performs network and security audits as well as system backups;
  • Monitors and tests server software performance and provide statistics and reports;
  • Recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases
  • Manages and/or provides guidance to junior members of the team;
  • Performs related work as required;
Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree in the field of Computer Science, MIS, or related field. Six (6) to Eight (8) years' work related experience. Additional related experience and/or current technical certifications may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience with data management Strong customer service orientation. AND Certification in MCSE / MCITP; Working technical knowledge of Network, PC, and platform operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2000/2003 and Windows Server 2008/2012. Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards Working knowledge of Symantec and industry best practices for backup & recovery Skills
  • Considerable knowledge of Windows operating systems with word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
  • Considerable knowledge of Communication equipment (modems, switches, routers) and printers, tape drives and other peripherals;
  • Considerable knowledge of Windows XP Pro, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003/2008/2012;
  • Knowledge and experience installing Server Software and ERP applications; Understanding of SMTP, DHCP, DNS, Terminal Services, and TCP/IP Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills;
  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required;
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language;
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment;
