Position: Itinerant Intervention Specialist

Reports To: Building Principal

Salary Schedule / Grade: Refer to DEA Salary Schedule

F.L.S.A Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

The Preschool Itinerant Teacher is responsible for coaching and mentoring general education children as well as children who have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) before they enter elementary school. This multi-age Teacher will evaluate children's skills and functional capabilities, and modify lesson plans to meet individual needs. This teacher will also work on social skills to help children enter an integrated learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Plans, writes, and maintains IEPS.

* Creates differentiated lesson plans to meet all educational needs.

* Completes all State required paperwork for Preschool students.

* Facilitates State mandated assessments.

* Communicates with parents.

* Attends building meetings and Professional Development opportunities.

* Attends training that are required for Preschool Teachers.

* Performs other duties as assigned

* Must have a physical statement as required by the ODE Preschool Licensing.

* Must meet the Step Up to Quality standards for teachers.

* Must meet the Ohio Department of Education Preschool Licensing Guidelines.

* Must be able to work as part of a teaching team with an educational paraprofessional.

* Maintains communication with parents/guardians.

* Holds parent orientations, parent-teacher conferences, and child health, development, education, and engagement sessions with parents.

* Conduct home visits

* Attends training as required for preschool teachers.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution

* Must hold Early Childhood Intervention Specialist or Special Education Teaching license with a PreKindergarten Special Needs or other license as approved by ODE to teach special needs preschool.

* Experience working in an urban school district or working with urban education

* Knowledge of differentiated instruction, child development principles, and a wide range of instructional and intervention strategies

* Ability and willingness to utilize technology in the enhancement of student learning

Itinerant Teachers may be granted 10-15 extended service days; a teacher would be paid at a per diem rate for these days.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS

* Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs.

* Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

* Work is performed in a general school setting with frequent home visits

* Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue

* Work may be subject to frequent interruptions

* Potential exposure to disruptive parents and students

* Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines

* Periodic travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
