Responsible for maintaining the physical structures of the Madison County Jail including minor electrical repairs, such as outlets and ballasts, plumbing fixtures, ceilings, doors, HVAC systems, and all other related work as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (All duties listed may not be included in any one position, not does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
- Repair and maintain physical structures of the Madison County jail using hand and power tools; perform minor electrical repair work to include installing lights, electrical outlets or ballast; repair plumbing fixtures and all associated systems; replace ceiling tiles; repair doors and locks; make necessary repairs to HVAC systems and perform preventative maintenance work on all systems as needed.
- Inspect Madison County Jail for electrical, plumbing and HVAC damages.
- Performs related work as required.
Education and Experience Education and Experience
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with at least five years experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC repairs, and blueprint reading preferred.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
- Considerable knowledge of methods, tools and practices of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
- Some knowledge of blueprint reading and hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability write instructions and to understand and follow instructions both written and oral effectively.
- Ability to perform work requiring mechanical aptitudes.
Other Requirements Physical Requirements
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb a ladder, work from scaffolding, lift up to 50lbs, and work outside in adverse weather conditions.
Certifications or Licenses Required
- Must possess both Universal Refrigerant Certification as well as Apprentice Plumbing and Gas Certification.
- Must be able to work on call , have a valid Alabama Drivers License, a clean driving record, and be able to pass a drug screen, physical and criminal background check.
