Job Description:
ABOUT THE POSITION:The Jewish Interfaith Fellow ( Fellow ) performs administrative and clerical duties to support the Jewish interfaith chaplaincy operations and programming for holidays, events, and activities at The Claremont Colleges. Reporting to the Jewish Chaplain, the Fellow is responsible for implementing and supporting programs for students, assisting in publicity and communications at the seven educational institutions (7Cs) of The Claremont Colleges, and taking on additional administrative tasks as they arise. In addition, this position is a student-facing role, building relationships with students and encouraging their spiritual growth as young adults.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.Programming Support
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties to support the programming and operations of the Jewish chaplaincy at The Claremont Colleges.
  • Collaborate with student leaders to plan, organize, and execute community programming and events.
  • Collaborate, create, and lead Jewish events across the 7Cs.
  • Provide information about events, resources, services, and policies across The Claremont Colleges. Provide clear and timely responses to general inquiries and provide assistant in-person, by email, and by telephone with a high level of customer service. As needed, route inquiries to the appropriate chaplains or other department staff member.
Administrative Support and Other Duties
  • Provide administrative or logistical support for meetings, events, and other activities, and attend, as needed. This includes but is not limited to ordering supplies, planning timelines, arranging for space setups and catering, coordinating communications with guests and vendors, creating and posting signage, staffing a table, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Jewish Chaplain, create and distribute marketing graphics and content for email, flyers, social media, and other outlets as appropriate.
  • Attend meetings with the chaplain and student leadership.
  • Stay knowledgeable about the programming and operations, staff contacts for different services, events, and resources to correctly route inquiries and requests.
  • Arrive on time, be dependable, and demonstrate a positive attitude.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSThe following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.Education/Training:
  • Currently enrolled and attending a master's degree level or higher graduate program, preferably in religious or spiritual studies.
Experience:
  • Some experience working with undergraduate and graduate student populations.
Competencies:
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and customs or a sincere and keen willingness to learn.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Punctuality, dependability, and flexibility.
  • Able to keep attention to detail while managing multiple tasks and interruptions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with college students, staff, and faculty across a complex, multi-organization structure.
  • Able to create and post marketing content on social media platforms.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, internet research, and a timekeeping system. Able to learn new technology and software as needed.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to interact positively with a diverse population of individuals at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Ability to learn and perform new tasks quickly and effectively.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to racial, cultural, religious, gender, and sexual orientation diversity.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in graduate program in religious or spiritual studies.
  • Experience planning and promoting small and large-scale events and information campaigns.
  • Six months or more of experience supporting student programming at a college/university center.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this part-time, temporary position are 12 hours per week during the academic year from date of hire and expected to end mid May. Work hours may be requested during breaks from classes. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.COMPENSATIONPay: The hourly rate for this position is commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position.
