Job Summary The Design Engineer will play a key role in developing and designing infrastructure projects for the Department of Transportation, focusing on pressure improvements, system renewals, relocations, and new business opportunities. The ideal candidate will work closely with field and construction teams to ensure compliance with federal standards and company specifications, while also managing multiple aspects of the project lifecycle, including permitting and construction tracking.
Key Responsibilities - Design and develop solutions for transportation, pressure improvement, renewals, relocations, and new business initiatives.
- Create and size meter and regulator set designs, including implementing over-pressure protection.
- Collect, analyze, and evaluate records for uprating procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Provide expert design options and technical guidance to enhance the distribution system's efficiency and performance.
- Offer support to field operations and construction teams as needed, ensuring smooth execution of projects.
- Prepare work order designs by drafting, investigating land rights, and applying company specifications in compliance with federal codes and standards.
- Manage the lifecycle of design projects, tracking progress through permitting processes, securing approvals, and monitoring construction status.
Qualifications and Requirements - Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, or a related field is preferred).
- 0-2 years of experience in civil engineering or utilities design.
- Proficiency or knowledge of AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of federal codes and standards related to utility design is an asset.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including field and construction operations.
