Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and inquisitive Editorial Journalist for 3 months. This role offers the chance to develop strong journalism skills by covering topics related to local employers hiring, economic trends, and workforce issues in Michigan. The Volunteer will work closely with the editorial team to produce engaging news articles, interviews, and investigative reports that align with MichiganHiredNews.coms mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and report news articles covering hiring trends, employment opportunities, and the local business environment in Michigan.
  • Conduct interviews with employers, industry experts, and job seekers to provide unique insights and perspectives.
  • Investigate and report on issues affecting the local job market, including economic shifts, workforce challenges, and employment legislation.
  • Collaborate with editors to ensure all articles are well-researched, fact-checked, and adhere to journalistic standards.
  • Develop story ideas and contribute to editorial meetings to shape the news coverage strategy.
  • Create multimedia content, such as interviews, podcasts, or video reports, to complement written articles (optional).
  • Stay informed about local and national employment news to ensure timely and relevant reporting.

Requirements:

  • Strong writing, reporting, and research skills.
  • Interest in journalism, local employment issues, and economic trends.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently in a remote environment.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience conducting interviews and gathering information from multiple sources.
  • Familiarity with AP style or equivalent editorial standards (preferred).
  • Previous experience writing for a news publication or blog is a plus but not required.
