Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Line Foreman-Electric. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Performs construction and maintenance work on overhead electrical distribution systems including setting poles and anchors, stringing wire, installing or changing transformers, installing and repairing street lights, and hanging cutouts, crossarms, and insulators.1.1. Confers with the Line Foreman in establishing work priorities and planning general approaches to work.1.2. Operates equipment as required by the job, including digger/derrick, bucket truck, backhoe, payloader and all hotline tools and test equipment such as PMT, amp, voltage, ohm and capacitor meters.1.3. Connects, disconnects, and replaces service loops.1.4. Builds and replaces transformer banks.2. Assists in the construction and maintenance of underground electrical transmission and distribution systems2.1. Lays and pulls wire, installs all hardware, makes connections and backfills trenches.2.2. Removes poles and wires of any existing overhead systems which are replaced.3. Investigates trouble calls and takes appropriate actions.3.1 Performs installation and repair work on customer service connections, including required transformer banks.3.2 Answers service calls, diagnoses problems and makes repairs to overhead and underground systems and service connections, etc. to avoid or minimize service disruption.3.3 Patrols transmission and distribution lines in severe inclement weather and makes necessary emergency repairs.3.4 Splices cables, rebuilds primary and secondary lines and builds new lines.3.5 Builds forms for switching cabinets and for transformer pads.4. Helps to train and works with apprentices.5. Performs other duties as assigned.Typical Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission systems; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with electrical transmission and distribution duties and the safety precautions required; skill in the use and care of tools of the trade; ability to understand and follow instructions in both oral and written form; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.Minimum QualificationsAssociates/Technical degree with coursework in journeyman/line worker curriculum, or related field, and considerable experience in electrical distribution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
