Position Type: Transportation/MechanicDate Posted: 2/5/2024Location: Coweta County Schools Transportation DepartmentDate Available: 2024-2025Closing Date: Until FilledPOSTED: January 2023 POSITION TITLE: JOURNEYMAN MECHANIC 1 12 MONTH-HOURLY PRIMARY FUNCTION: Have the ability to diagnose problems, maintain shop records, and order needed parts. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED equivalent and commercial driver's license. Experience: Mid range diesel engines to include: International, Cummins, and Mercedes. All gasoline engines, school bus bodies and chassis, hydraulic and air brake systems, steering components, manual and automatic transmissions, drive lines and rear axles. Skills Required: Should be able to perform all phases of repair as well as diagnosis of minor and major repairs on the above. Diagnose problems with fuel systems; repair or replace all parts on engines and fuel systems; overhaul engines in or out of frame; remove and re-install engine and components to serviceable and operational condition; diagnose minor and major problems with ignition and electrical systems to include all lights with monitor systems; charge systems to include batteries. Diagnose and repair hydraulic and air brake systems to include all phases of repair, rebuild caliper, hydro booster, air brake valves and brake chambers; turn and true rotors and drums; power steering pump and gears, kingpins, bushings, tie rod ends and front axle components; rear axle gear and other hubs; drive line components. Diagnose and repair or rebuild transmissions (automatic and manual); clutch and pressure plate. RADIO SYSTEM: Be able to diagnose problems with the Motorola Radio System. Make minor repairs within the radio, antenna, and microphone. CAMERA SYSTEMS: Be able to diagnose problems with camera systems - at present REI and ANGEL TRAX. Make minor repairs to the camera and recording systems. Ability to retrieve, Download, and copy the camera hard drives. COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS: Be able to perform diagnostics on the following engines: International, Cummins, and Mercedes. Ability to read the codes and research them. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Have the ability to diagnose problems, maintain shop records, and order needed parts.

Communicate in an orderly manner with shop personnel, bus drivers and other supervisors.

Should be able to perform work assignments with minimum supervision.

Ability to understand and adhere to all safety rules.

Perform such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Shop Foreman and/or Transportation Manager.
