Overview:
- Shall be responsible to create a pleasant, safe, and healthy environment for students, faculty and staff.
- Under general supervision, an employee in this class performs and directs others in performing skilled installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, apparatus and equipment used in communications, lighting and power including, but not limited to, high voltage switch gear, transformers, transmission lines for low voltage distribution, secondary sub-panels, alarm and signal circuits, electrical power plant control systems, elevators, fire alarm system, building automation system, standby generators according to specifications in the National and State Electrical Codes and National Electrical Safety Code. An employee in this class trains and directs the work of licensed electrician, Registered un-licensed electricians and student workers.
Responsibilities:
- Must be familiar with both power and hand tools.
- Schedules the work activities of assigned staff in accordance with workflow requirements to assist staff in the timely accomplishment of workload.
- Schedule the work activities of licensed Electricians, registered un-licensed electricians and student workers to ensure the timely completion of electrical projects.
- Must be able to help with site preparation and tear down of special functions
- Must be willing to attend seminars, to participate in night school, or any other correspondence courses as assigned by the Department Supervisor.
- Miscellaneous maintenance duties.
- Must wear SMU furnished uniforms.
- Must follow all safety requirements.
- Direct, instruct, monitor and inspect the electrical work of licensed electricians, registered un-licensed electricians and student workers and other helpers sufficient to ensure work is correctly and safely completed.
- Maintain electrical projects records of time and materials sufficient to report daily, weekly, and monthly progress of electrical projects.
- Must be able to review plans, blueprints and specifications and prepares sketches, plans and material lists for electrical projects to understand the scope of the project and recommend changes.
- Must be able to estimate costs for time, labor and materials so that the supervisor can prioritize, budget and schedule electrical project.
- Install, adds to, alter, repairs and maintains electrical wiring systems, fire alarm system and fixtures such as boxes, conduit, outlets, switch panels, incandescent and fluorescent fixtures, power plant controls, elevators, etc. on Saint Marys University campus.

- Must be physically fit to perform the work of the Trades Department.
- Must be able to work well at heights.
- Must have a knowledge of construction plans, blueprints and electrical specification.
- Must have knowledge of State and National Electrical codes and National Electrical Safety Code.
- Knowledge of electrical tools and equipment, safety standards and procedures sufficient to perform work efficiently and safely.
- Knowledge of shop math sufficient to estimate labor and material costs for planned projects.
- Must be skilled in use of hand and power tools sufficient to install, alter, maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment.
- Must be able to repair hand and power tools to ensure their availability and safe operation for electrical project.

- Shall have a minimum of a high school education, with other related trade schooling that is related to the position.
- Must have a Class A Minnesota Journeyman License
