Essential (Core Competencies) DutiesAccurately measure height, width, length, and other proportionsBasic material take-off to ensure proper material selection and quantity neededPerform proper layout for work to be put in placeMove building materials to proper workspaceWork with materials such as wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, and/or drywallUtilize appropriate tools and materials to build or repair structural componentsJoin materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesivesUse levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and lasers to ensure everything is level and secureCheck work along the way to ensure it meets specification and quality standardsWork with light-gauge and load-bearing steel framing for building interior partitions, soffits, exterior framing, and curtain wall constructionBuild and/or install windows, roof systems, stairs, blockingCut, hang, and install drywall with minimum wasteInstall all types of ceiling grid systems (standard, slotted, and specialty products)Install millwork, casework, doors, frames, hardware, bath accessories, in-wall blocking, exterior sheathing, and/or insulationAlways exercise the proper use of PPESet up and safely use company equipmentQualificationsPreferred Education and Experience:High School Diploma or GEDParticipation in a secondary or post-secondary trade curriculum4+ years experience field carpentry experience Knowledge and experience working with commercial carpentry tools and building materialsKnowledge and understanding of construction safety devices and PPEKey Competencies:Self-motivated to grow personally and professionally through on-going education as a result of the rate of change in the positionConscientious with customers in areas such as meeting customer needs, wants & expectationsAbility to make decisions that promote successful outcomes for employees, customers, and/or the organizationAbility to successfully adapt (personally and professionally) to changes in the internal and external environmentAbility to build a relationship with another person or group through effective communication skills (listening, speaking & behaving)Ability to focus on and meet target goals and objectivesAbility to work effectively and productively as a member of a cross-functional teamProactively defining & resolving problems before they become an issue, and identifying & resolving identified problems for optimum resultsAbility to manage one's internal states, impulses and resourcesWork EnvironmentCarpenters work indoors and outdoors on many types of construction projects, with varying degrees of exposure to the elements.
