Job Description:

This is an entry-level full time position that supports the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) with day-to-day financial, accounting, and administrative functions to facilitate successful financial processes and ensure continuity of operations within the organization.

Position-Specific Duties

  • Perform financial assistance work using the Departmental Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS), the Departmental Strategic Integrated Procurement Enterprise System (STRIPES) and an internal system (SRTS) to track financial obligations, costs, and payments.
  • Validate and enter costs and obligations in accounting and financial system databases.
  • Perform accounting tasks such as reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, and ensuring accuracy in transactions.
  • Generate, analyze, and reconcile daily funding reports.
  • Maintain purchase order review spreadsheets.
  • Provide a range of general accounting, financial management, and procurement support.
  • Compile, analyze, record, and report various financial/accounting data and transactions as needed.
  • Maintain and update project cost spreadsheets.
  • Assist in the creation of reports and summaries as needed.
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, or a related field required.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in financial management, accounting, or procurement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting software or spreadsheets.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Office.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to sit for long periods.
  • Ability to view a computer monitor for long periods.

Additional Requirements

Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship on your first day of employment to obtain a DOE HSPD-12 Badge. OSTI's policy requires all employees on this contract to be US citizens.
