We promote individual and collective growth within the community by redefining affordable housing.DescriptionJob Purpose / Summary:The Junior Accountant, working under the direction of the Supervising Senior and Assistant Controller, will gain practical accounting experience within the property management industry - analyzing financial information, preparing journal entries, and generating monthly/annual financial reports while applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other governmental policies and procedures.Role and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Reconcile bank and debt service accounts, investigate discrepancies, and record adjusting journal entriesReview and maintain general ledger activity and post reclassifying and accrual journal entriesScan and file documents according to record retention systemsPrepare and update Excel spreadsheets used as audit support and backupObtain other audit evidence (ie: debt service, real estate, and water & sewer backup)Perform analytical reviews of income and expense general ledger accountsAnalyze financial statement trends and budget variancesGenerate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.Assist with the annual budgeting process and other financial planningHandle special projects and tasks as neededAssist with the Properties' year-end audits and liaison with the independent auditorsWork interdepartmentally to achieve the overall goals of the companyLiaison with auditors, outside owners, asset managers and government oversight agenciesCore Competencies:Desire to learn accounting within the real estate industryAnalytical and problem-solving abilityOrganized and detail-orientedPerform a variety of duties with accuracy and in a fast-paced environmentStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independentlyProfessional demeanorPAY: 45,000-65,000 per yearPosition RequirementsMinimum Requirements:BA/BS in accountingCPA or an MBA is a plusMinimum of 2 years accounting experience is a plus; public accounting and business experienceKnowledge in Account Reconciliation, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll is a plus.Real Estate (affordable housing) experience is a plus.Yardi Software experience is a plusExcellent computer skills including all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams)General QualificationsWork Environment:This job operates in a professional office environment.
