MADISON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOLS

Position Title: Athletic Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, & Principal

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Summary of the position: A Coach, or Head Coach, guides and teaches athletes the skills they need for a specific sport. Their duties include skills coaching, helping to condition athletes and enforcing safety procedures.

Qualifications: Appropriate knowledge of sport and rule of specific sport wishing to coach. Prior coaching experience preferred.

Supervises: Student-Athletes and Assistant Coach(s)

Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

Major Coaching Responsibilities

* Communicate effectively- with Student-Athletes, Parents, & Athletic Department

* Responsible for knowledge and effective administration of all Madison Student Athletic Handbook & Coaches Handbook.

* Responsible for following all IHSAA Policies as dictated by IHSAA By-Laws

* Completion of IHSAA Rule Meetings on time

* Completion of National Federation of High School Sports Courses

* Completion of CPR/AED certification

* Knowledge of Academic Eligibility Requirements for Athletes

* Scheduling Transportation

* Keeping Accurate Stats

* Seeking Professional Development Opportunities

* Attending Regularly Scheduled Athletic Meetings with Athletic Director and/or coaching staff

* Maintaining Athletic Equipment

* Maintaining Athletic Facilities

* Financial/Budgeting/Fundraising

* Assist with Off-Season Conditioning

* Proactive communication to the Athletic Department, specifically regarding student-athletes, parents, other coaches, etc

Responsibilities to Student-Athletes

* Be a Great Role Model

* Supervises practice, games, team trips, & locker room.

* Hold student-athletes accountable at all times.

* Build Positive Relationships with all student-athletes.

* Takes all necessary measures to help keep players safe and provide a safe environment.

* Explains process when enforcement of discipline is necessary. Communication to Athletic Department and Parents of student-athlete

* Be Dependable

* Help student-athletes obtain their academic & athletic goals

* Expect your student-athlete and parents will complete evaluations on your program at the completion of your season.

* Will organize/assist with the planning and execution of off-season training for your specific sport.

* Be involved at all levels of the specific sport- youth, middle and high school

Personnel

* Evaluations/End of Season Meetings

* Athletic Director will be responsible for Evaluating Varsity Head Coaches

* Varsity Head Coaches will be responsible for Evaluating Assistant Coaches and Jr. High Coaches

* Head Coaches are responsible for completing self evaluations through Coach Evaluator

Awards Recognition Programs

* Organizes all athletic recognition programs such as the End of Season Awards Programs.

* All end of end-season programs will be completed in the timeframe set by Athletic Department

* All award certificate information needs to be submitted to Athletic Department within a week of the end of season

Community Relations

* You are always representing Madison Consolidated Schools and your program - realize the power of your own example

* Promote and publicize efforts and achievements by promptly and consistently reporting results to the media and athletic office within a week of the event.

* Represent your Program and MCS in a positive manner throughout the community.

* Find ways to give back to Our Community, expectation is that your program(s) does at least one community outreach each season.
