Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) - a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York - seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned Junior Network Specialist with the Information Technology Department.   • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 1 or more years of experience with physical installation of network devices (firewalls, switches, access points, VOIP Phones, etc.)
  • 1 or more years of experience in basic configuration of Cisco firewalls, Switches and Wireless controller/access points.
Who You Are
  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP, including such topics as VLANs, OSPF, OSI layers, TCP/UDP ports, NAT, ACLs.
  • Knowledge of DHCP, DNS, SNMP, TFTP & Network Monitoring Tools like PRTG.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Ethernet cabling, single mode, and multimode fiber optic design standards and applications.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to collaborate with others and work well in a team.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analysis, and creative problem-solving abilities.
What You'll Do
  • Assists in cabling, installation and configuration of network equipment
  • Assists in responding to alerts regarding network equipment
  • Responsible for network administration tasks (port naming, cable tagging, equipment asset tagging)
  • Maintains network documentation on internal repositories
  • Works with all IT Staff members in documenting processes and procedures to support the Network
  • Participate in LAN/WAN data communication equipment software lifecycle activities (e.g. code updates)
  • Deliver exceptional customer service
  • Research and draft reports on network needs at various locations
  • Provide updates to internal monitoring/alerting tools
  • Assist in upgrading OS of various network equipment
  • Perform monitoring and diagnostics of network issues (Testing/Quality Assurance of Wireless networks).
  • Conduct site visits to troubleshoot Network Layer 1 issues such as replacing UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and Ethernet Cables, installing access points, replacing End of Life (EOL) equipment.
  • Coordinate vendor installation for new ethernet drops, ISP site surveys, ISP modem installation.
