There is one vacancy at the Erie County Medical Center.Examples of Duties A Junior Personnel Clerk -ECMCC performing a variety of personnel clerical duties within the Human Resources Department at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC); Receives walk-in visitors and answers telephone inquiries; Provides basic information and directs visitors and callers to appropriate staff; Assists in processing personnel transactions; Processes new hire on-boarding, including review and verification of required paperwork and corresponding documentation for compliance with policies and procedures; initiates calls to prospective and current employees; May schedule interviews and pre-employment medical exam for prospective employees and return-to-work medical exams for current employees; Receives requests for verifications of employment, researches required information and replies to verification inquiries; Inputs, maintains and retrieves information using various computer applications to track personnel transactions; Assists in compiling data and statistics from various sources for special projects as required; May collect and account for money received from employee badges, lockers, copies, etc.; Processes invoices for payment of vendors; Maintains employee files, ensures accurate approvals and appropriate agreement execution for employment transactions including internship programs; Performs a variety of clerical duties such as typing, filing and maintaining records, reports and other correspondence, performing file searches and retrieval of materials, opening, dating, sorting and distributing mail, maintaining and updating departmental bulletin boards; Participates in and may organize meetings, committees, in-services and conferences as required. Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following requirements on or before the date of the written test: A. Completion of sixty (60) semester credit hours*; or B. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of personnel clerical experience. C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B). Notes: 1. Personnel work is defined as duties performed in the areas of recruitment, screening, selection procedures, employee services, maintaining employee personnel and employment records. 2. This publication is available on line at: Scopes / Subjects of examination:A test designed to evaluate knowledge, skills and /or abilities in the following areas: Customer service These questions test for knowledge of techniques used to interact with other people, to gather and present information, and to provide assistance, advice and effective customer service in a courteous and professional manner. Questions will cover such topics as understanding and responding to people with diverse needs, perspectives, personalities, and levels of familiarity with agency operations, as well as acting in a way that both serves the public and reflects well on your agency. Preparing written material These questions test for the ability to present information clearly and accurately, and to organize paragraphs logically and comprehensibly. For some questions, you will be given information in two or three sentences followed by four restatements of the information. You must then choose the best version. For other questions, you will be given paragraphs with their sentences out of order. You must then choose, from four suggestions, the best order for the sentences. Understanding and interpreting written material These questions test for the ability to understand and interpret written material. You will be presented with brief reading passages and will be asked questions about the passages. You should base your answers to the questions only on what is presented in the passages and not on what you may happen to know about the topic. Working with office records These questions test your ability to work with office records. The test consists of two or more sets of questions, each set concerning a different problem. Typical record keeping problems might involve the organization or collation of numerical data from several sources; maintaining a record system using running balances; or completion of a table summarizing data using totals, subtotals, averages and percents. You should bring with you a hand-held battery- or solar-powered calculator for use on this test. You will not be permitted to use the calculator function of your cell phone. VETERANS: Disabled and non-disabled veterans as defined in Section 85, New York State Civil Service Law, will have 10 and 5 points, respectively added to their earned scores if successful in the OPEN examination. You must claim these credits when you file application but you have an option to waive them any time prior to appointment. If you have already used these credits for a permanent position in NYS, you may not claim them again. In conformance with section 85-a of the Civil Service Law, CHILDREN OF FIREFIGHTERS AND POLICE OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY shall be entitled to receive an additional ten points in a competitive examination for original appointment in the same municipality in which his or her parent has served. If you are qualified to participate in this examination and are a child of a firefighter or police officer killed in the line of duty in this municipality, please inform this office of this matter when you submit your application for examination. A candidate claiming such credit has a minimum of two months from the application deadline to provide the necessary documentation to verify additional credit eligibility. However, no credit may be added after the eligible list has been established. Candidates taking more than one exam in the SAME exam series will be allowed up to the specified length of time for each exam. Example: If you are taking two exams in the same series with a maximum time of five hours for each exam, you can spend no more than five hours to complete both exams. RATINGS REQUIRED: Tests are rated on a scale of 100 with a passing mark at 70. Unless the announcement states otherwise, you must pass the written test and the oral test, if any. Test instructions may further divide the tests into parts and set minimum standards for each part. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: If a subject of the examination, training and experience may not be rated if all passing candidates are expected to be immediately reachable for appointment. If rated, training and experience will be based on the statements in your application subject to verification. If this examination includes a qualifying written test, candidates admitted to the test will have conditional approval only. Final decision regarding the qualifications of candidates rests with the New York State Department of Civil Service.
