Description The Advanced Center for Ophthalmic Research in Neuroimaging (ACORN) at Wills Eye Hospital is seeking a full-time junior statistician to join our expanding vision research program. Situated within the Glaucoma Service of Wills Eye Hospital, ACORN leverages modern standard-of-care and cutting-edge ophthalmic imaging technology to perform investigative studies in glaucoma and other ocular and neurodegenerative diseases. With over 20 years of clinical and imaging data amassed across various institutions, ACORN provides an active and vibrant, cutting edge research environment, placing us at the forefront of shaping future trends in eye care. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with strong analytics skills and experience in clinical academic research. They should thrive on delving into data to uncover insights and be adept at working independently and collaboratively in refining research questions, designing studies, developing and evaluating predictive models and advanced algorithms, creating analysis plans, generating reports, and contributing to grant applications and manuscript preparation. Effective collaboration and the ability to communicate ideas with the research team members are expected. Organization and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are crucial for success in this role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively work with Primary investigators and ACORN lab members, with data analysis, study design, data analysis proposals, study form development, grant proposal/protocol development and review.
- Develops new ideas that promote current research. Exercises a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgement in planning, organizing, and guiding extensive scientific research programs and activities of outstanding novelty and/or importance.
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of research projects.
- Prepare data sets for analyses, including checking for data anomalies, statistical analyses and provide data summaries including graphical representations, tables, and analysis reports for ongoing studies and study investigator meetings.
- Effectively collaborate and communicate with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, trainees (e.g. residents, fellows), project staff, external collaborators and IT personnel involved in various projects.
- Prepare summaries of methods and interpretations of results for analysis reports, presentations, study manuscripts, monitoring reports, and grant applications.
- Respond in a timely manner to various analytic requests from study investigators.
- Provide independent consultation for smaller consulting projects as requested.

Position Requirements Position Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or similar quantitative field required with experience in data statistics.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience or equivalent demonstrative informatics/statistical applications and consultation in a biomedical setting.
- Excellent general written/verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working in a dynamic, research-oriented group with several ongoing concurrent projects; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
- Proficient in R, Python and MATLAB with experience with Image data is a plus.
- Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical audiences; ability to effectively communicate technical concepts both written and verbal.
- Excellent skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, relational databases (userfriendly interfaces) are expected.
- Demonstrated experience in at least one area of expertise, statistical methodology such as longitudinal, survival analysis, or informatics; statistical computing; biomedical informatics, graphical techniques.
- Strong analytic skills including machine learning type analytic skills, correlated data, longitudinal, survival and multivariate data analysis, etc.
- Strong ability in critical thinking and problem solving.
- Possesses a track record of collaboration on research projects.
Preferred:
- PhD in biostatistics, biomedical informatics, health services research or related field.
- At least two (2) years of relevant experience in industry or academic research environment as a data scientist, or collaborating with biostatisticians and clinical investigators on research studies, especially demonstrated evidence from peer reviewed published papers.
- Experience with image analysis and processing methods.
- Experience with large datasets and database use.
- Experience with analysis of electronic medical record data.
- Manipulation and analyses of complex high-dimensional data.
- Experience with database curation.
- Experience with deep learning approaches, e.g. neural networks.
- Experience with design of data collection and database management.
- Demonstrated ability to implement machine learning models in scalable formats for broad applicability.
- Experience in teaching bioinformatics/biostatistics to health professionals.
- Experience in documenting study files/records, creating study reports and manuscript preparation is a plus.
