Join ManTech's Natural Resources team in Lompoc, CA and kickstart your career in wildlife biology! We're seeking a motivated Junior Biologist to support critical monitoring programs at Vandenberg Space Force Base. This full-time position offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a dynamic environment. While the position is based in our Lompoc office, we are open to a hybrid work schedule for the right candidate.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Support established field work which will include routine night spotlight surveys for herpetofauna, daytime seine surveys, placing and maintaining audio recorders, performing habitat assessments and mapping, and mark/recapture techniques for various wildlife species.

* Responsible for leading fieldwork both independently and in a team environment, inputting and summarizing data, and occasionally contributing written information to technical reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

* B.S. in Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, or related field

* 4+ years of professional wildlife biology experience with a focus on field work

* Demonstrated experience leading field biology projects, conducting biological surveys/assessments, and strong data QA/QC skills

* Specialized work or research experience focused in wildlife biology

* The position will require travel throughout Santa Barbara County and may require travel throughout the southwest region; work vehicles are provided for travel to work sites

* Ability to work 30% in office, and 70% in the field depending on the season

Preferred/ Desired:

* Federal 10(a)(1)(a) permits for CA wildlife species

* Experience with natural resource management or environmental compliance and permitting for the Department of Defense

* Master's degree in ecology, wildlife biology, environmental science, or related

* Research experience with amphibians and/or reptiles

* Ability to identify key characteristics of CA plant species and use dichotomous keys

* GIS experience (e.g., spatial analysis and producing figures for reports)

* Possession of recovery permit with authorization for handling California red-legged frog, or the qualifications that would enable approval from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to do so

Physical Requirements:

* The candidate must be comfortable working outdoors and may encounter typical field hazards such as poison oak, ticks, and other nuisance species

* Office work entails stationary sitting positions up to 50% time

* Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer

* Lift and haul weight occasionally up to 50 lbs at a time

* Hike rugged, uneven terrain often at night

* Operate 4WD and other all terrain vehicles occasionally trailering heavy loads

* Navigate using GPS in remote settings

The projected compensation range for this position is $66,500.00-$110,800.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
