THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO FILL MULTIPLE VACANCIES.Why does the job exist?This position will provide care, custody, and treatment in a juvenile correctional rehabilitation facility. How does it get done?This position will:
  • Supervise youth in all activities;
  • Maintain control of detained youth by giving directives, counseling and/or utilizing the appropriate level of verbal or physical de-escalation;
  • Write reports and prepare required records regarding incidents, youth movement and noteworthy information;
  • Ensure the proper documentation of all violations of facility operating procedures, rules and regulations, and state and federal statutes.
  • Who are the customers?John Paul Taylor Center Staff and Adjudicated youth. Ideal CandidateHas experience with:
  • Supervising at-risk youth;
  • Writing reports and documenting youth activities;
  • Area and person searches.
  • Minimum QualificationHigh School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a correctional setting, military duty, classroom teaching or instructing in a rehabilitative environment, working in planned recreational activities, or active participation in community action programs, or for Correctional Officer Specialist positions, relevant work experience as it relates to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Substitution TableThese combinations of education and experience qualify you for the position: Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND 2 years of experience 2 Associate's degree or higher (Bachelor's, Master's) AND 0 years of experience Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position. If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of semester hours in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.Employment RequirementsCompletion of the hiring process is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment screening process. Working ConditionsPotential risk from juvenile actions; this job could require running, lifting and possible physical intervention. Incumbents must be willing to accept changes in geographic assignment and be willing to work shifts, overtime, holidays, weekends and call back for emergencies.
