Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsSummaryUnder direct supervision of the Hays County Justice of the Peace Judges, the Juvenile Diversion Coordinator provides case management services to juveniles and their families in the Hays County area, including Buda, Kyle, Wimberley, Dripping Springs, and San Marcos. Coordinates diversion activities and requirements with community services, specialized training providers, and local school authorities to implement programs for juvenile offenders or develop preventative programs for juveniles. The product of the employee's work affects the public, the immediate staff of the department, as well as other county employees.Individuals in this position serve at the pleasure of the current elected official.Responsibilities* Reviews case history to determine eligibility and suitability in the Juvenile Diversion Program; coordinatesdiversion andcourt services to serve juvenile defendants and their families.* Prepares juvenile cases forthejudge prior to and during juvenile court dockets.* Monitors juvenile compliance with court orders.* Presents and maintains diversion agreements.* Maintains contact with juveniles and their families to provide direction and assistance in obtaining appropriate services.* Monitor juvenile compliance with court orders/ maintain contact with juveniles and their families to provide direction and assistance in obtaining appropriate services.* Coordinates enforcement efforts with other agencies and lawenforcement.* Establishes cooperative programs with community-based organizations to identify opportunities for community service and specialized training identified for juvenile offenders.* Works with local school authorities to identify and implement programs for juvenile offenders or preventive programs for juveniles.* Develops,implements and evaluates outreach programs for local schools, youth serving agencies and interested community organizations.* Responds to various types of court case related inquiries; provides information regarding court policies and procedures.* Receives,processes,documents,and receipts payments for court fees and fines.* Assists the public with various types of requests including but not limited to court dates, payment plans, and/or deferred disposition.* Arranges for community service work projects for appropriate youth involved in the Diversion Program.* Authorizes diversions of juveniles charged with certain offenses punishable by imposition of a fine from criminal adjudication that emphasizes accountability and responsibility of the parent and the child for the child's conduct while also promoting community safety.* Conducts court-related clerical support duties.* Processes various types of court documents including but not limited to complaints,affidavits, warrants, citations, requests, and motions.* Schedules and coordinates court proceedings and notifies participants.* Responds to inquiries from the Judge regarding individual cases.* Provides defendants with appropriate case file documentation.* Complies and prepares data and statistics on Diversion and Prevention program.* Sends out correspondence to defendants.* Performs other duties that are assigned.Knowledge Required* Proficient knowledge of basic and juvenile criminal procedure and court operations.* Proficient knowledge of case management principles.* Proficient knowledge of social, educational, and other community resources.* General knowledge of basic mathematics, including simple statistical analysis.* Professional knowledge of communication in oral and written forms, correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.* General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including filing and operation standard office equipment.* Professional knowledge of techniques for dealing with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone and de-escalation principles and methods.* Professional knowledge of criminal history acquisition and dissemination rules and practices.* Professional knowledge of Class C misdemeanors.Skills Required* Exceptional skills using initiative and independent judgement with established procedural guidelines.* Exceptional skills communicating effectively with all stakeholders, including Judges, court staff, and defendants.* Exceptional skills compiling and summarizing information and preparing routine or special reports oral and written reports to the court.* Exceptional skills operating court software applications, including, without limitation, risk-assessments, case management applications and geo-location applications.* Exceptional skills maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.* Exceptional skills organizing own work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and working independently without direct supervision.* Exceptional skills contributing effectively to accomplishing team or work unit goals, objections, and activities.* Exceptional skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with county staff, city departments and personnel, outside agencies, law enforcement and legal personnel, defendants, and the general public.* Adaptable to the use of new technological advances in the use of criminal justice systems in relation to case management.Emotional DemandsThe Juvenile Diversion Coordinator will meet with contacts in many different settings in Hays County. The contacts are generally cooperative however, this position may have to persuade, influence, motivate, or control situations where individuals may be fearful, skeptical, or uncooperative.Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and will travel to other locations in the community including personal homes, schools and other public places. Travel throughout Hays County will be required. The work involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of offices, meeting rooms, or vehicles. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.SupervisionThe Juvenile Diversion Coordinator is required to satisfactorily perform the above duties and will be evaluated for technical soundness, accuracy and completeness.The Juvenile Diversion Coordinator is responsible for carrying out recurring assignments independently.The Supervisor assists this position with deviations, problems and unfamiliar situationsGuidelinesThe Juvenile Diversion Coordinator uses judgment in selecting appropriate guidelines such as Hays County policies, state, and federal regulations, established precedents, and work directions. This employee must interpret and adapt these guidelines for application to specific cases and problems. The Juvenile Diversion Coordinator must follow directions, meet deadlines, have good attendance, be punctual, multi-task, keep promises, be reliable, and have a proper attitude.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
