The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking an enthusiastic and committed music teacher for a 1.0FTE long term sub position that will run from Nov. 25, 2024 through the end of the 2024-2025 school year. This teacher will be responsible for teaching a mix of kindergarten through 5th grade general music classes, 5th grade chorus, and 6th through 8th grade chorus. We are seeking candidates with the following qualities:
- experience teaching singing and general music, music literacy, song games and music and movement activities at the elementary level
- experience teaching elementary level general music class instruments, such as xylophones, recorders, etc.
- a passion for and interest in many styles of music from around the world, and commitment to exposing students to a variety of approaches to learning music
- some knowledge of and experience teaching takadimi or a similar music literacy system and solfege
- ability to differentiate the curriculum to reach and support all students
- is a team player, works well with colleagues within and beyond the Music and Performing Arts department
Preference is given to candidates with piano and/or guitar accompanying ability or experience on another accompaniment instrument (though our 5th grade and 6-8 choruses have a piano accompanist). In your cover letter, please address the following:
