**Description**

A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor/Family Medicine Physician. This position reports to the Executive Director of Practice Management, the Family Medicine Residency Program Director, Associate Dean Medical Education, and the Dean. The Assistant/Associate Professor/Family Medicine Physician provides core faculty support to the Family Medicine Residency Program and provides comprehensive family medicine medical services for members of the Northeast Missouri community. Additionally, this position will teach courses and course prep work in the department of Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine & Community Health.

**Major Job Duties**

+ Provide supervision and assessment of residents in the Family Medicine Residency Program.

+ Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment for a specified patient population.

+ Trains and supervises medical students assigned to the clinic.

+ Participate in GMEC, subcommittees, task forces, and special and/or internal review committees as requested.

+ Work with other Family Medicine faculty to ensure a positive learning climate.

+ Participate in recruitment and selection of resident candidates.

+ Facilitate residents' participation in the educational and scholarly activities.

+ Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.

+ Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

+ Provides comprehensive medical services for patients on a continuing basis.

+ Provides supervision of residents and students in the program.

+ Completes assessment of trainees as requested.

+ Works with the program director and other faculty to ensure the program meets ACGME standards.

+ Participates in departmental and residency program meetings and committees, as assigned.

+ Assist in clinical presentation development; this includes integration of case and clinical presentation formats in the current curriculum and development of cases for evolving curriculum.

+ Assist in the identification of assessment issues and in the response and resolution to those issues as they effect KCOM students and faculty.

+ Assist in the revisions, development and presentation of policies affecting KCOM students and faculty (i.e. learning disabilities policy, Promotion Board changes, etc.)

+ Interview KCOM applicants, serve on committees and other duties assigned by the chairperson, associate dean or dean.

+ Develop learning objectives, lecture materials and test questions associated with coursework related to existing curricular aspects of internal medicine.

+ Submit annual Faculty Activity Report.

**Education/Training**

+ Must have a DO or MD.

+ Must be a Board Certified Family Physician.

+ The preferred candidate will be a well-trained family physician.

+ Federal DEA Certification; medical specialty license or certification; board certified or board eligible in specified area of medical specialty.

+ Teaching experience in a higher education setting.

+ Medical education experience would be extremely helpful.

+ Experience working with physicians and coordinating efforts.

+ Must have excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

+ Develop, deliver and assess curriculum content for medical students.

+ Good organization and ability to prioritize tasks.

+ Manage multiple tasks concurrently.

+ Work well within a larger organization.

+ Well-developed problem solving skills.

**Skills**

+ Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

+ Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

+ Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.

+ Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

+ Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.

+ Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

+ Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.

+ Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

+ Effective verbal and written communication skills.

+ Ability to supervise, advice, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.

+ Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

+ Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

+ Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.

+ Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
