Join our clinical team as a Kentucky Medication Aide!
The Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA) will administer medications with safety techniques and sound judgment under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.
Must Have an active State Registered Nurse Aide License
Must Have the Kentucky Medication Aide Certification
JOB DUTIES:
QMAs will administer the following medications
- Oral medications, including scheduled medications
- PRN medications, only after authorization of nurse, then nurse will assess and document effectiveness
- Inhalers
- Nebulizer treatments, only if nurse completes lung assessment before and after and documents findings
- Topical and rectal ointments
- Nasal sprays and drops
- Eye ointments and drops
- Ear ointments and drops
- Non-invasive treatments
Observes residents for drug reactions and reports any concerns to the nurse immediatelyMonitors residents vital signsCalculates medication dosages and stocks the medication cartDocuments what medications were given for the day on the medication administrator record (MAR) chartReports to the nurse on duty general and specific information pertaining to the response of the residents to their medications or treatments and any other pertinent or appropriate informationReports to the nurse on duty for instructions before administering any PRN medicationAudits documentation to assure accurate, complete, and timely recording of medications and treatmentsSafely lifts, moves, and transfers residents as requiredAttends all mandatory meetings and in-servicesParticipates in a med pass audit at any timeOther duties as assigned by Director of Nursing or Nurse on dutyKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS& ABILITIES:
Adheres to and interprets resident rights and personnel policiesKnowledge of federal and state regulationsUnderstands special needs and limitations of elderlyRecognizes and identifies problems and refer to others if necessaryAbility to communicate with the resident, family, staff, and communityMaintains the confidentiality of resident information and honor his/her personal and property rightsResponds to the needs of the facility, residents, and families in a timely and appropriate mannerMust function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residentsMust have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level in which they are currently functioningAddresses resident and family satisfaction issues immediately by reporting them to the Supervisor in a professional mannerMust be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English languageMust be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and/or holidaysEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have current, unencumbered state license and must be able to provide all necessary documentation.
