Kid Care Director Operations Salary Range: $60,488 - $81,035 annually Definition Responsible work in the oversight and operations of a Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care School Aged licensed afterschool program. Directs staff, coordinates daily activities, interacts with vendors, builds relationships with schools staff, and communicates with participants. During the summer months is responsible for the planning, coordination, and direct oversight of a recreational summer program for students grades K-8, Supervision Works under the general supervision of the Director of Recreation; works independently, in accordance with established procedures, departmental policies and standards; unusual situations are referred to the Director of Recreation. Performs a variety of responsible duties which require attention to detail and accuracy and the exercise of considerable judgment and initiative in carrying out. Supervisory Responsibilities In partnerships with the Kid Care Director - Curriculum co-supervises 10 to 20 after school employees; in summer co-supervises 20 to 30 seasonal staff, volunteers and part-time employees. Work Environment Most work is performed in a classroom setting conducted indoor and outdoor at the program site and at the Recreation Office. Summer work is conducted primarily outdoors. Communication with the department and participant caregivers is sometimes required outside normal business hours. The workload is subject to seasonal fluctuations. The employee operates standard office equipment, sports equipment, and classroom equipment. The employee has regular contact with parents and other town departments requiring perceptiveness, persuasiveness and discretion. Contact is in person, by text, telephone, e-mail and in writing. Errors could result in personal injury, injury to others, and legal repercussions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Responsible for staff development as required by Department of Early Education and Care. Supervises programs appropriate for school age children, focusing on social, emotional and developmental needs. Prepares all program licensing and paperwork maintenance, including periodic evaluation of the program. Coordinates transportation needs for the program including developing an annual transportation plan for each student/school. Prepares evaluations for all staff, assists staff in continuing education initiatives, and professional development. Maintains cleaning and upkeep of the facility and maintain an orderly physical environment and monitors safety situations at all times. Keeps accurate records for the children and the program as required by the licensure. Follows licensing procedures to safeguard the health and safety of the children at all times. Conducts regular staff meetings and provides updates regarding the program operation to staff as needed. Plans snack calendar and purchases the snacks in an efficient and timely manner. Works with the Recreation Program Supervisor on planning for recreational summer program and acts as the Programs Co-Director during programming Works with the Director of Recreation and Kid Care Director of Curriculum in all hiring decisions for the program. Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates. Recommended Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Two years of experience working in a child care setting with school age children. A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required with a concentration in early education and care preferred. Experience in working with programs run by the EEC preferred. Additional Requirements Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license Knowledge, Ability and Skill Extensive knowledge of programs designed for school age children. Must have a working knowledge of all EEC school age procedures, regulations, and policies. CPR and First Aid Current Certification Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with other town employees and the general public. Ability to motivate and encourage participation in programs. Ability to plan and organize programs, including scheduling. Ability to supervise personnel efficiently. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with people of all ages. Ability to instruct others. Excellent planning, organizational and customer service skills. Physical Requirements Moderate physical effort is generally required to perform duties at program sites. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak and hear, use hands to operate equipment, climb or balance and is routinely required to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents, use a computer and operate an automobile.
