Position Type: Support Staff/Kitchen AideDate Posted: 2/5/2024Location: Hawthorne Elementary School JOB TITLE: Kitchen Aide REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager in Hawthorne, Building Principal in Schurz TYPICAL WORK HOURS/ DAYS: FSLA: Non-Exempt SUMMARY The kitchen aide assists workers engaged in preparing foods the school lunch program by performing the following duties. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The kitchen aide is to:
  • Assist the cook in handling and preparing food in accordance with established Type A menu plan and sanitary regulations.
  • Assist in student control in the lunch room.
  • Wash dishes, silverware, pots and pans.
  • Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator.
  • Store foods in designated areas.
  • Clean work areas, equipment and utensils, segregate and remove garbage.
  • Distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Read a limited number of two- and three- syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between a series of numbers.
  • Print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Abilities The kitchen aide must have the abilities to:
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens (10) and 100s (hundreds).
  • Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Abilities The kitchen aide must have the abilities to:
  • Apply reasonable logic to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Required High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
