Job Title: Kitchen AssistantFriendship RoomEmployment type: Part-timeLocation: Alpena, MIQualifications: The applicant must possess the ability to manage individuals, (both those served, volunteers, and staff) in a compassionate, non-judgmental, and cooperativemanner. They must possess the ability to interact with the general public and represent All Saints and The Center of Charity's Friendship Room in a positive manner. The applicant must possess organizational skills, cooking skills, mandated nutritional education (Serv-Safe Training), and experience within a commercial kitchen.Hours: This is a 19 hr. per-week part-time positionResponsibilities: The Kitchen Assistant should render compassionate, non-judgmental service to those served. At the On-Site Facilitator's direction, the Kitchen Assistant will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of this program. This person will aid the On-Site Facilitator in offering guidance to the volunteers in a way that does not destroy trust in them nor in their abilities to function with a certain degree of creativity and independence. The Kitchen assistant will assist in the coordinated effort to produce and serve the daily meal.Specific Duties:
Work with other staff in a coordinated manner to provide daily meal planning and food preparation. On days worked when the On-Site Facilitator is not present, be responsible for daily meal planning and food preparation. On the days when the On-Site Facilitator is not present, know and assume the responsibilities of the Facilitator, as reflected in the first seven duties on the job description of the On-Site Facilitator: Oversee and carry out daily operations through a presence that is reassuring, firm yet, not intimidating. Maintain order in the dining area and create an atmosphere of non-judgemental welcome for those friends we serve. Ensure that the Friendship Room meets all codes and regulations. Provide oversight to and work collaboratively with all paid staff and volunteers Paid Staff Oversee and train all staff in a supportive and encouraging manner; hold weekly staff meetings. Work in a coordinated manner with other staff to plan menus with an emphasis on creating appealing meals through timely utilization of food stocks on hand. Volunteers Establish a collaborative, cooperative relationship with all volunteers Through a coordinated effort with other staff, cook and serve the daily meal when the volunteer scheduled for this duty is unable to do so. Provide orientation and ongoing training for volunteers and oversee their daily work. Accept and acknowledge donations and properly store these donations and other incoming food stocks and supplies. Maintain required record-keeping, including: Daily attendance charts for those served Incoming donations of outgoing food and supplies All record keeping, paperwork, and reporting for staff. Oversee and carry out necessary cleaning. Assist the On-Site Facilitator in daily operations through a reassuring presence, firm yet, not intimidating. Assist the On-Site Facilitator in supporting/overseeing Friends (those we serve) Other paid staff Volunteers- In the absence of the volunteer cook of the day, the Kitchen Assistant will participate in the coordinated staff effort to cook and serve the daily meal. Assist the On-Site Facilitator in scheduling monthly volunteer hours Assist the On-Site Facilitator in menu planning. Assist in the acceptance and storage of donations and all incoming food stocks and supplies; maintain appropriate records for incoming and outgoing food and supplies. Assist in cleaning. Attend scheduled Board meetings when requested by the Board. Perform all other duties as requested by the Board.Pay: Compensation is dependent upon education and experience.Probationary Status: This position will have a probationary status of 90 days; at which time an evaluation will take place.
