Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.Job Objective:As the Kitchen Assistant ensures a safe and clean operational environment in the Kitchen and Dining Room while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.What You Will Do:Dispose of food residue via utilization of garbage disposalWash dishes in 3 compartment sinks with appropriate chemicals and water ratio including, but not limited to, soap, sanitizer, and rinseWash dishes at proper temperature for safetyPlace kitchen supplies (dishes, pots, pans, etc.) in proper storage locationsEmpty trash after each service or mealEnsure trash containers are clean and free of residueSweep and mop floors after each shift at minimum or more frequently as neededWipe tablesEmpty trashClean sinksClean Dish Tank Room floors and clear gridsStore all items properlyClean and maintain Utility Room in working orderRinse mops and hang properly to dryClean mop buckets and store properlyClean trash containers weekly at minimum or more frequently as neededClean equipment as scheduled at minimum or more frequently as neededGrillFryerTilt SkilletFood ShredderMeat SlicerOvenMixerWallsBreak down empty boxes and dispose of in dumpsterAssist in making sack lunchesAssist in serving line when neededAssist and follow instructions of Cook on dutyCross train to additional tasks as directedParticipate in food donation and pantry program as directedWear appropriate attire and equipment for safe food handling at all timesApronHair netGlovesClean uniformClosed toed, non-skid shoesCommunicate appropriately to leadershipAttend monthly in-service meetingsAttend staff meetingsAssist other departments as needed or directedMaintain attendance in accordance with facility guidelinesContribute to a positive work environmentDemonstrate teamworkOther tasks as assigned by leadershipMinimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferredBackground Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed. Must be 18 years of age or olderExperience: None RequiredCertifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Serv Safe Food Handler certification required within 6 months.Skills/Abilities:Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.Must demonstrate knowledge and competency in using industrial and typical Kitchen equipment and supplies (i.e., dishwashing machine, garbage disposal, 3-compartment sink, mop, bucket, broom, dustpan, trach bags, cleaning supplies, towels, apron, hair net, gloves, etc.)Must demonstrate understanding of safe food handling practices in an industrial kitchen environmentSupervisory Responsibility: NoneThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties of this job.
